Recording: Sally G, Hey Diddle by Wings

Sound Shop Studio, Nashville
Producer: Paul McCartney
Engineer: Ernie Winfrey

Wings worked on two songs on 10 July 1974 at Nashville’s Sound Shop Studio: ‘Sally G’ and ‘Hey Diddle’.

‘Sally G’ had been written by Paul McCartney on the morning of 26 June, and had been rehearsed by Wings earlier in July. The backing track had McCartney and Jimmy McCulloch on acoustic guitars, Denny Laine on bass guitar, and Geoff Britton on drums.

The overdubs included pedal steel guitar by Lloyd Green, and fiddle by Johnny Gimble. Green also added pedal steel to ‘Hey Diddle’, and McCartney overdubbed an ocarina part to the song.

After the session players left, Wings continued work on ‘Sally G’, with Paul and Linda McCartney and Denny Laine overdubbing lead and harmony vocals.
