John Lennon and Yoko Ono appeared on The Dick Cavett Show on 3 May 1972.
This was their second appearance on the talk show; the first was filmed on 8 September 1971.
Filming took place at the ABC Television Studios at 202 West 58th Street, Manhattan, New York City. The other guest was actor Shirley MacLaine.
Lennon and Ono discussed their attempts to remain in the United States, and Lennon’s bid for permanent residency. Ono also spoke about their efforts to gain custody of her estranged eight-year-old daughter Kyoko.
They also performed their forthcoming single, ‘Woman Is The N****r Of The World’, as well as ‘We’re All Water’, backed by Elephant’s Memory.
This episode of The Dick Cavett Show was broadcast by ABC on 11 May. Cavett introduced the first song with the disclaimer: “I permitted this insertion into the show that I’m doing now as the only alternative to a full deletion by ABC of the segment.”
