The song was written by Buddy Holly and Norman Petty, and first recorded by The Crickets in 1958. Petty’s wife Vi played piano on the recording.
Starr’s version was recorded for the tribute album Listen To Me: Buddy Holly, released on 6 September 2011. The album also contained performances by artists including Stevie Nicks, Brian Wilson, Linda Ronstadt, and Jeff Lynne.
