Ultimate Guitar has an amusing clerical error:

“…in the good and bad books that I have read”

Isn’t John actually singing

“…in the good paperback books that I have read”

?

Now today I find, you have changed your mind

I think the lyric is: “in the good and the bad books that I have read”

I’ve always heard and seen the line as “in the good and the bad books that I have read.”

Here’s the Misheard Lyrics thread, @Sea Belt, https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..rd-lyrics/ a-hard-days-night-george-9

The second “the” is important. Google says “in the good and bad books” which doesn’t add up syllable wise.  But I can hear “in the good and the bad books that I have read.”  On closer listening, I can’t hear a crucial “paper” which would be needed for my opinion I’ve had all these years. I just never listened closely enough I guess.

Yes, it’s obviously “In the good and the bad books that I have read”.

“Good paperback books” is a funny mistake, but it doesn’t make any sense.

I think it makes a kind of sense, but it doesn’t sound a thing like “paperbacks” at all to me. (Never understood people hearing “I buried Paul” either – they can’t hear the two prominent ‘s’-es in “sauce”??)

Very cool aspect about this song (one of many cool things) is how they mix 8-bar verses with a 12-bar refrain – it’s like John can’t wait to race through a verse so he can get to the messianic chorus faster.

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.
