I must have heard this song dozens of times, but for some reason on my most recent listen it knocked me out. The orchestration is stunning, and Ringo’s vocals are absolutely perfect for it.

I think it's great you're going through a phase,

and I'm awfully glad it'll all be over in a couple

of days

Yes, another great Martin/McCartney tune.

TIL (from the BB page for the song) that it was actually a Martin/Lennon composition, written for Julian!

Wow, I just assumed it was Paul.  That’s a major contribution of “sappy” sentimental music from John!

This must be one of the most famous Beatles stories and Paul told it sooooo often…

How John wrote this for Julian and sang it for Ringo so he could learn it and many people just “assume” this must be a Paul song but John could write gentle songs, too.

And it’s not “sappy” at all, it’s beautiful and gentle, and I just love Ringo’s whispered ending words (much better than what he tried before).

What IS sappy is Martin’s arrangement, especially that HIGH and LONG note by some female vocalist at the beginning…

Good Night is a wonderful song with beautiful lyrics and I love Ringo’s voice on it.
