As I’m sure most of us have observed, ever since about the late ’80s, Ringo has virtually always worn sunglasses – or at least some sort of tinted glasses – for any public or on-camera appearance. Has he developed sensitive eyes or something, or is this just now his ‘look’? I think his stint as the Conductor on Shining Time Station was probably the last time I’ve seen him completely without eyewear.

I’ve been wondering this myself. I would think it’s just his ‘look’, as he never seemed to have poor vision before.

I’ve heard that people with light blue eyes can develop photosensitivity. One former member of another band I like also has blue eyes and wears sunglasses exclusively now, and cites photosensitivity due to camera flashes as the reason.
That said, another connection between Ringo and that other musician is that they had a history of substance abuse, and maybe they just don’t like the way they look in their older age without the glasses.

i don’t like this thing from Ringo.it’s a kind of not showing your inner self.he has always been a sincere one. in the Scorsese film about George he wears the sunglasses even inside!. probably it’s caused by photosensitivty but he wore the “mask” very often just in the 70’s, surely for not showing tha abuses effects and today, i think, he doesn’t like how he looks, he must have great great wrinkles! in a 80’s tv interview beside with George the journalist asked him to take them off for a moment, i saw it on youtube, but he didn’t want to

Maybe he doesn’t have any eyes under there.

It must suck to always live in darkness though.
Good point. Though Roy Orbison had that ‘look’ for what seemed like forever; it’s odd seeing photos of him without them.
I should note that I happen to share Ringo’s sparkling blue eyes

Uhhhhhhhhhh. He looks so cute.As do all of us with those baby blues.
If blue eyes means cute what the hell happened to me?
Also I remember reading something about how people with blue eyes don’t have the protection against bright lights than brown eyes. Personally I have a problem with bright lights. Sometimes even sunglasses just aren’t enough.
