I apologize if there’s already a thread like this.
So anyway, I was just looking through the “Remembering John…” thread, and it made me miss John even more than I usually do (if that’s even possible), so I decided to create this thread to cheer me up.
So, my favorite song is probably either Jealous Guy or Instant Karma . They’re both such amazing songs, but in completely different ways.

Impossible to just pick one, so I chose four instead:
Mind Games , Grow Old With Me , Real Life, Give Peace A Chance .

Has this been done before? Anyway there are always new additions.
Bless You – possibly Johns best solo love song showing just how much he loved Yoko. The emotion and poignancy as he sings is so clear and the lyrics are up there with his best. The outtakes available to hear are every bit as good as the final version.
Jealous Guy – Have loved this ever since i first heard it – dont play it very often but every time i do im blown away. Who says Paul was the only one who could write love songs?
Instant Karma – the crashing piano opening, Johns raw vocal, Spectors claustrophobic arrangement, the loud drums, and a great lyric. Its played often on the radio and rightly so – 40 years on and it still sounds modern.
Real Love (Take 4) – A better demo than the one used for the Beatles single and John sounds like John. Fragile vocal, gorgeous piano, intimacy (John alone at his piano). Forget the Beatles recording and play this one – you will love it from the off. There is no doubt in my head John would have recorded this in the studio for the follow up to Double Fantasy and it would have been a classic.

“Cold Turkey ” or “Just Like Starting Over”. Like (welcome to the forum!) Flyon13 said, amazing songs in such opposite ways.
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Imagine doesn’t need to mention. Beside Imagine my favorite one is Working Class Hero . The lyrics…

I like Watching The Wheels and Oh My Love. Beautiful Boy is very touching too, but every time I hear it, I tear up! 🙁

I totally understand you! ” I can’t wait to see you come of age but I guess we both just have to be patient” I like Oh My Love, too, especially the chorus, it’s so beautifulI like all the other songs people posted, too… I suppose I like a lot of his songs…
You pegged it. That is exactly the line that gets me every time. And then what comes afterward: “… ’cause it’s a long way to go, a hard road a-ho, yes it’s a long way to go, but in the meantime… before you cross the street, take my hand; life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans…”
… Waaah!
Oh My Love is such a peaceful song. It’s lovely.

“God ” by a million-kazillion-billion-gazillion-trillion-and-nine miles! The lyrics are powerfully simple, John’s piano playing is mighty, Ringo’s drumming is top-notch, the delivery itself is phenomenal; on top of it all, I think it may very well be the best vocal performance of John’s entire career…
"I'm not going to change the way I look or the way I feel to conform to anything. I've always been a freak. So I've been a freak all my life and I have to live with that, you know? I'm just one of those people."

Woman and (Just Like) Starting Over. I also love Instant Karman, Imagine and Gimme Some Truth , but I don’t like any other john solo song. I love almost every paul solo song and most songs on All Things Must Pass , but I don’t like John’s, Ringo’s and George’s later solo songs

I really like Cold Turkey , as it counts as one of the few proper “songs” that John did while still technically a Beatle. Very intense stuff, too.
E is for 'Ergent'.

Admit it: You HATE John Lennon ! You don’t like any of his songs off “Revolver “! You don’t like the first five Beatles albums, which are some of the most John-dominant! Your three favourite albums are the ones with the least Lennon-involvement!

I don’t think hate is the right word – more like “really doesn’t like John Lennon “

Not sure if sarcasm or not, but I really got the same impression. I didn’t want to comment as everyone have their opinion, but GeorgeTSimpson sure likes to emphasize how he likes him the least. Like I said, it’s ok, everyone has their favorites and least favorites etc, but no need for repeating it in every discussion.

Not really sarcasm, more gentle teasing combined with legitimate observation. But hey, to each his own; and at least he’s not NASTY about it or anything!
(And yeah, that “Cold Turkey ” riff! Closest to punk that Eric Clapton has ever gotten.)

I was never sure who “made up” the riff, was it Eric? I know he plays it on the record but did he “compose it”… not sure if that is the right word lol. As riff sounds like something John would make during that period (Yer Blues and Revolution ).

For me, it has to be “Imagine ” — such a simple melody but his voice does so much with it.
But there are many honourable mentions: “Instant Karma “, “Working Class Hero “, “Woman “, “Tight Ass” — and one of my favourite Lennon tracks that’s often overlooked: “Meat City”
John Lennon was a very gifted vocalist.
I've got nothing to say, but it's okay..
