So it’s nearly two months to the day that Sgt. Peppers was released on June 1st 1967. With that in mind, it would be cool to know how you are all planning to celebrate it’s anniversary. Maybe you’re just going to give the album a listen?
As an Englander (from the north-ish) i’m tempted to go along to the three-week festival being held in Liverpool between late May to mid June. It would be a good excuse for me to visit Liverpool having not been before!
Aside from that i’m hoping to see a documentary or something similar on TV. I’d be great if the BBC were to do something (maybe the BBC proms?)

Ah! I only just listened to the album in full the other day, so maybe if I’m up for it, I’ll play it again. I probably won’t watch any new documentaries because either I can’t be bothered or whatever gets recorded for me (Beatles, Monty Python etc.) lies around for about two months on TiVo before my parents delete it.
Despite all that whinging () I will probably watch a few things off YouTube on the day.

That’s actually a long time between listens.
Maybe I just play my records too much…

We will have friends visting from California that week, so a celebration of sorts will not be out of the question. They are well aware of my Beatles obsession.

I’m thinking of doing something on here – turning the Sgt Pepper page into more of a minisite. Need to give it some thought though. Suggestions welcome!

Just saw this article:

Apparently, “Strawberry Fields Forever ” and “Penny Lane ” are going to be included somewhere on the expanded reissue of the album.

I’m not liking this whole adding Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane idea, mainly because this means one of 2 things:
1. They’re going to replace When I’m 64, which was planned on being a single while Strawberry and Penny were going to be on the album.
2. They’re going to add them to the end as bonus tracks, which doesn’t seem that bad, as long as they add fellow Sgt. Pepper outtake Only A Northern Song as well.
Personally, I don’t think either track would fit on Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band, it’d be like putting Paperback Writer onto Revolver or I Want To Hold Your Hand onto A Hard Day’s Night , it would be fine at the end of the album as bonus tracks but even so I hope The Beatles aren’t pulling another George Lucas on us and taking something we love and altering it, demanding people only know about the altered version. Hopefully next year they try to add Hey Jude onto the White Album , that would be a much better choice, replacing the sad and gloomy ending the song originally had.

Firstly, I just have to say this, why would they add I Want To Hold Your Hand onto A Hard Day’s Night when it was recorded during the With The Beatles sessions, @Dark Overlord, surely better to add it to that?
Anyway, I have hopes waiting to be dashed for this. I don’t think they’ll be stupid enough to cut SFF and PL into the Pepper tracklisting. They’ll be there as bonus tracks. One possibility being an “intermission” between the two sides of the album, another being tagged onto the end of the disc after the “Run-Out Groove”, but I think the most likely is that this will be a multi-disc set, at least 2 discs, and I think possibly more.
This will be the first time they have expanded one of the original albums, deluxed it, and there’s a lot hanging on it. When the announcement we know is on the way is made within the next few days, I’m hoping not to be disappointed.

If all they do for the 50th anniversary is add Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever , I am going to be profoundly pissed. Thematically, I don’t think either song really fits well on the album, and it just works so much better as a double a-side single. Besides, they’re already widely available on the Magical Mystery Tour LP.
Personally, I’m hoping for new Stereo mixes of all the tracks (like the ones they did for 1+ not so long ago) and a second disc of previously unreleased tracks. I’d be fine with adding a few recordings that were already on Anthology 2 , but I’d really like to see mostly stuff we haven’t heard. If they wanna get really crazy, then they should add Carnival Of Light !
Hopefully they will be smart enough not to disappoint us this time. I MEAN IT’S NOT LIKE Sgt. Pepper IS THE MOST FAMOUS, INFLUENTIAL, AND IMPORTANT ALBUM OF ALL TIME OR ANYTHING.

I’d only be interested in a Sgt. Pepper made of alternate tracks. I don’t wanna listen to the same old stuff wether it is in 5.1 , dolby sorrounded surrounding, ultra wide stereo or hyper mega remasterized.

Hi all,
I just got an email from Deconstructing The Beatles announcing a brand new Beatles album to be released with the 50th anniversary album/CD of Sgt Pepper ‘s. I can’t copy the email (stupid Fire table) but here’s the link to an article from the notice:

I can try to copy the email if anyone is interested.

I was excited at first, thinking we’d a new leak, and then I laughed as I read through, with the confirmation coming with the author’s name – Scott “All 4/1” Freiman.

Aww, did I get excited for no reason then? Damn! Is this Scott Freiman one of the bad news people then? I’m not really up on the good guys vs bad guys of the Beatleverse. I guess I need to be enlightened.

Easily done, @PauliesGirl. We’re all waiting for the announcement of what the 50th Anniversary Edition will be, as we know there’s something on the way. The author cleverly used those rumours that are floating around and which we expect to be true, like the addition of Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane . I was just, maybe, a little more aware of the date.
