‘Sure To Fall’ is the eighth song on Ringo Starr’s eighth solo album, 1981’s Stop And Smell The Roses.

Carl Perkins recorded ‘Sure To Fall’ in December 1955 at the Memphis studio owned by Sun Records’ Sam Phillips. It was initially intended to be the follow-up to ‘Blue Suede Shoes’, but was instead released in 1957 on Perkins’ debut LP Dance Album.

The Beatles recorded a version of ‘Sure To Fall (In Love With You)’ during their Decca Records audition on 1 January 1962, with Paul McCartney on lead vocals. McCartney’s voice sounded somewhat shaky on the recording, which is only available on unofficial bootlegs.

They also recorded it on four occasions for the BBC radio shows Pop Go The Beatles, Saturday Club, and From Us To You, on 1 June and 3 September 1963, and 31 March and 1 May 1964. Two of the recordings can be heard on 1994’s Live At The BBC and 2013’s On Air – Live At The BBC Volume 2.

Starr’s version was produced by Paul McCartney at Super Bear Studios in Berre-Les-Alpes, France, in July 1980. McCartney played bass guitar, piano, and percussion, and was joined by Linda McCartney on vocals.
