‘Private Property’ is the opening song on Ringo Starr’s eighth solo album, 1981’s Stop And Smell The Roses.

It was one of two songs on the album written by Paul McCartney, the other being ‘Attention’.

The song was recorded in July 1980 at Super Bear Studios in Berre-Les-Alpes, France. The performers included Paul and Linda McCartney, and Wings guitarist Laurence Juber.

‘Private Property’ was the second single taken from Stop And Smell The Roses. It was released on 13 January 1982, but failed to chart anywhere. Starr was dropped by RCA shortly afterwards.

Although lasting 2:44 on the album, a promotional CD issued for the 1994 reissue contained a 4:50 mix featuring pedal steel guitar by Lloyd Greene.

Previous album: Bad Boy
Next song: ‘Wrack My Brain’
