‘Husbands And Wives’ is the fourth song on Ringo Starr’s 1974 album Goodnight Vienna.

It was written and first recorded by Roger Miller. His version was issued as the first single from his fourth studio album Words And Music in 1966. Other recordings were by artists including the Everly Brothers, Neil Diamond, David Frizzell and Shelly West, and Brooks & Dunn.

It was suggested for Starr’s album by producer Richard Perry, who had previously unsuccessfully attempted to record it with Harry Nilsson.

In the studio

‘Husbands And Wives’ was recorded at Sunset Sound Recorders in Los Angeles. The backing track was taped on 29 and 30 July 1974, with overdubs following in August and October.
