‘Hottest Gong In Town’ was a song by George Harrison on the soundtrack of the 1986 comedy film Shanghai Surprise starring Madonna and Sean Penn.

The film was produced by Harrison’s company HandMade Films.

Harrison appeared as a nightclub singer in the film, and recorded a number of songs for the soundtrack, including the title track, ‘Hottest Gong In Town’, ‘Breath Away From Heaven’, and ‘Someplace Else’.

‘Hottest Gong In Town’ was first released on 22 June 1992, on an EP included with copies of the Genesis Publications book Songs By George Harrison 2. The other tracks were a demo of ‘Life Itself’, ‘Tears Of The World’, and a live recording of ‘Hari’s On Tour (Express)’. The book and EP were limited to 2,500 copies.
