There is a new ebook on itunes, called “Yellow Submarine ” – probably a book based on the movie. So, have you seen it? If not, check it out! It’s there for free. Post your opinion and everything you think, I’m curious as I can’t have it for now.

It’s downloading right now for me.

Edit: Oh, and it is a book based on the movie, including songs and video! Seems pretty great.

I’m not sure, because they’re advertising it as something new. When did this e-book happen?

By the way, have you noticed that iTunes doesn’t dismiss The Beatles the way they do some other older bands? Both this and Live At The BBC -Volume 2 got huge billing from iTunes. It’s nice to see.

Here’s the exact quote from the email iTunes sent me:

“With colorful pop art and a delightful plot, The Beatles’ dreamlike journey to Pepperland is one of the most beloved musical adventures of all time. The Made for iBooks edition now includes HD video and is available in a suite of new translations — download it today for free. Plus, for a limited time, get select music and more from The Beatles at a special price.”

Do with that what you will.

Sounds like the old but with added HD video and new translations, which is fair enough. More an upgrade than a new release.

Beatles are a big name plus you can still only download The Beatles legally from iTunes, which i think they pay the other Apple for the exclusivity, so they will push the albums more.

It looks like a nice book, too bad I don’t have an iOS device a-hard-days-night-john-7Seriously, they should release iTunes on Android, maybe I’m wrong but I think that would give them more profit.

And yes, it’s nice to see “1” always holding the 100th spot or so – it’s not surprising, though ahdn_george_07

I think releasing iTunes on Android would be totally pointless. iTunes has unparalleled selection in Movies, TV Shows, Apps, Books, and especially Music. People might be buying Apple products just to be able to have iTunes exclusive Apps and Music, such as The Beatles, in fact. People want to legally download Abbey Road  but don’t have an iOS device? Apple (both of them) says: Oh well. Buy our product next time. So people do buy their product next time they need a new phone or tablet. It’s why iTunes is exclusive. Sorry if I came off a little rude there, just trying to get my point across.

Isn’t that the whole problem though? A trade monopoly. It is not a bad thing for a producer, like Apple Records, to have some control over their product. It is a bad thing when a distributor, like Apple Computers, limits how you can use those things they distribute to their reading/listening devices. It prevents competition and the consumer getting value for money. The European Union broke Microsoft’s attempts at such monopolies on things like browsers, and I have no doubt they will soon enough break Apple’s attempts at a similar monopoly. A publisher and distributor should not be allowed to collude to keep the price of the publication (be it book, audio or visual) artificially high, and ensure the sales of the devices of the other.

Wasn’t saying I endorsed what they’re doing, just saying I understand why they’re doing it. Because they can.

I do not see why you say “I think releasing iTunes on Android would be totally pointless” then? That does sound like an endorsement of their approach. “Why would they open up iTunes to Android devices when they’re not required to?” is an understandable POV, and one I argue they should be required to. Hence, I do not think  iTunes working with whatever OS you use would be pointless.

It seems as if I’ve typed myself into a hole here… All right, I don’t like what they are doing, but I would do it if I was them, and it does make the most sense for them. It would be pointless for Apple Computers, and they control what happens to iTunes for now. It don’t like it, and it’s not the right thing to do from a moral POV, but it’s what they should do from their point of view. So it really is, “why would they open up iTunes to Android devices when they’re not required to?”

Brilliant line. I’m sure I will have to steal it one of these days.
