I thought you Beatles people may be able to help me with a piece of research I am undertaking. Do you know where I can find a detailed list of the worldwide record sales of the Beatles? I really want to find out in which countries the Beatles were popular in the 1960s and in which they were less popular? Were they popular in non English speaking parts of the world? Were they more popular in the US or the UK? I really think record sales is the best way to answer this question.

Cheers

John

A good thought, but maybe not a fair question since the population of the US is so much greater than most countries. Perhaps record sales per capita might be a better indicator? Not sure – good luck with that.

Japan. Japan goes crazy for anything pop culture-related, especially foreign.

I thought it was Mexico based on the reaction when Paul tours, but I made the mistake of saying that to a Brazilian, who told me in no uncertain terms it’s Brazil.

Check out my fan video for Paul's song "Appreciate" at Vimeo or YouTube.

All I can tell you is, it’s not Ireland. Although in 1964 we did produce Beatles cotton tea-towels (Apple take note)

Yes, I thought of this. How about in which country did the Beatles have most number one records in the 1960s?

Again, there would be also be problems with that as their records were not issued in a uniform way worldwide. Virtually every country in the world has records that are unique to them. The level playing field is lost, without even taking into account that countries compile their charts differently. Some based solely on sales, others based on a combination of sales and radio play.

Good point. However, I found some information on Beatles worldwide record sales on Beatles Radio http://www.beatlesradio.com/me…..Sales.html. Not sure where they got the information from, but its a start.

I only know the country where the beatles are most popular is definitely NOT austria but i think it’s probably still the uk, because in the 60s almost every single and every album they released was number one

Except for Love Me Do and Strawberry Fields Forever . They didn’t.

By hook or by crook, I'll be last in this book.

Yeah. I don’t think it was the Phillipines. Did you see the way Imelda acted? She was mad! P.S. George T. Simpson I’ve seen your avatar before. There was a picture of Justin Bieber sitting at a piano with the caption, “Let It Be , Let It Be ” and the picture for your avatar comes up going “Are you f**king kidding me?” There are a couple of other photos that use it, but that one’s my favorite.

By hook or by crook, I'll be last in this book.

A great object of irony. But Imelda was really mad, no lie. “Here Comes The Sun …king” “So close!”
