I don’t. The whole concept you’re selling means nothing to me.

I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe.  This has been true for 2016 & 2017 Sig-Badge.png but I may have to get more specific in the future.

UPDATE:

This how I specify types of fans:

1st gen type A: born before 1934 (therefore being older than 30 by years end of The Ed Sullivan Show appearance)

1st gen type B: born from 1934 to 1945 (therefore being older than 18 by years end of The Ed Sullivan appearance, but not being older than 30 by years end of The Ed Sullivan Show appearance)

1st gen type C: born from 1946 to 1948 (therefore being older than 18 by years end of the release of the Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band, but not being older than 18 by years end of The Ed Sullivan Show appearance)

1st gen type D: born from 1949 to 1957 (therefore being older than 10 by years end of the release of the Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band, but not being older than 18 by years end of The Ed Sullivan Show appearance)

1st gen type E: born from 1958 to 1964 (therefore being born by years end of The Ed Sullivan Show appearance, but not being older than 10 by years end of the release of Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band)

1st gen type F: born from 1965 to 1967 (therefore being born by years end of the release of Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band, but not being born by years end of The Ed Sullivan Show appearance)

2nd gen: born after 1967 (being born after years end of the release of Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band)

I specify fans by those who like the group and those who don’t. Couldn’t care less when they were born, how they came to be fans, what their favourite song is (as long as its not ‘Imagine ‘ or anything solo blue-meanie), which Beatle is their favourite, which era of look they prefer for whatever Beatle etc etc etc etc. So I don’t draw the line as I don’t have one to draw.

I think its cool and am inevitably envious if you saw them or were around at the time but thats it.

However there are the different levels of fandom: those who like certain songs/albums, those who love all the released songs, those who go deeper and search out the outtakes, live material, demos etc, and those who go deeper still and love hunting for crumbs of information in books, magazines etc. And everyone is welcome – even those who don’t like them – but not sure why they would be here.

The book I’m reading classifies first gen fans as born 1945 to 1961 and who were fans before they broke up.

I would therefore be second gen since I was born in 1970 just after Let it Be was released.

@Expert Textpert

That book is, for a lack of a better word, bullshit. There are tons of people born from 1962 to 1967 that either imply or directly say that they liked The Beatles as a kid or at least imply a large possibility of them liking them when they were big (Dave Rybaczewski, Axl Rose, John Bon Jovi, MeanMrMayo, Mike Judge, Kirk Hammett, James Hetfield, Andy Babuik, Scott Ian, Tom Morello, Courtney Love, Krist Novoselic, Janet Jackson, Kurt Cobain, Noel Gallagher). On the flipside, that would make The Beatles themselves not 1st gen fans, nor George Martin, nor Brian Epstien, nor Yoko Ono, nor Linda McCartney, Pete Best, Astrid Kucher, Cynthia Lennon, Mike McCartney, or anybody else born before 1945.

I don’t really care about your opinion. You can debate someone else. I’m sorry I put effort into your thread.

What the hell did I say. I wasn’t insulting you, I was insulting that book. If you either agree with the book or wrote the book, than I am sorry I said that and respect your opinion, though I do disagree with that book. You shouldn’t be sorry that you put effort into this, it is ok to disagree with someone. Just because you disagree with someone doesn’t mean you have to hate or not like them, I disagree with my older brother all the time (metal or 70’s pop, smoking good or bad, Adam West or Sandler), but I think about how great of a person he is (he gave me a home after I was evicted from my house for god sake) and then I think of what we both like, The Beatles. Sorry if I offended you in any way, I wasn’t trying to, I just wanted to speak my opinion in an non-insulting but honest way.

Just presenting one opinion. There’s no reason to call something “bullshit” just because it differs from your perspective. Why create a thread asking for different opinions if you are just going to shoot down the ones you disagree with? All I am saying is that I regret offering an opinion, since it was obviously not welcome.

I respect your opinion, but to me, this sounds like rubbish.

What got you into The Beatles anyways because there was nothing special that was released in February of 1968.

I’ve posted it many times throughout these pages, so you’ll just have to look for it. I doubt you will though because it’s not about you or your opinion.

Your pattern seems to be starting threads asking for other people’s opinions that you have absolutely no interest in. All you do is call other people’s opinions “rubbish” or some such written vomit while feigning respect and forcing your views down our throats.

I have no time for people like that.

Again, sorry. I overreacted and got pissed off because there are people born after 1961 who like The Beatles (during and after the fact, including me) but is a nice opinion and I shouldn’t be angered by it, however, I do disagree with it.

I know this may sound weird, but I consider myself both a 1st gen and a 2nd gen fan. You see, I was born in 1967 and my parents were fans of The Beatles (my father was born in 1939 and my mother was born in 1945, both perfect ages to be 1st gen fans), so they listened to it with me a lot and took me to see Yellow Submarine in the theatres when it first came out, although I can barely remember it.

Maybe you should try posting more.

This list is absurd and unnessecary. Technically, 1st gen fans are people born during or before 1970 who liked The Beatles during said era. However, I personally draw the line at 1964 (the year that The Beatles hit it big overnight in the US), in the sense that someone born on December 31st, 1964 is a 1st gen fan whereas someone born on January 1st, 1965 is a 2nd gen fan, although I know some people who draw the line at 1962 (the year The Beatles had their first commercial release), making Heather McCartney born on the last day to be a 1st gen fan if you follow that standard. I’ve also heard some people draw the line at 1959 and 1957.

Maybe you should try posting more.

I respect your opinion, but there some serious flaws in it. For example, my mother was born in 1949 and Joe and Jack (me) were born in 1962 and 1963 respectively (I know she was very young when she had us, but let’s not get carried away here) and all three of us were big into The Beatles when they first came out. I my mind, that would make us all 1st gen fans, however, according to you, me and Joe would be 2nd gen fans. To make matters more confusing, my mother first got into them from her mother, who bought her the She Loves You single because she thought that she would like it, which according to you makes my mother a 2nd gen fan and me and Joe 3rd gen fans.

I don’t know why you are so confused. If your mom and grandmother are both fans then you are a third generation fan.

I think about it with likeness to being an American or any other nationality (I use American in this example because I am American). I am a fifth, sixth, and seventh generation American because my family came over that many generations ago. I do not start counting generations when the Europeans came over or even when the first native american was born because their lives are not relevant to mine.

It’s the same thing with the Beatles, but it can get kind of tricky. For example, I was the first person in my line of ancestry to become a Beatles fan, but after I became a fan my mother also became one. I still consider myself a first generation fan even though my mom is a fan since I was a fan first, but I would accept being considered a second generation fan since she is one.

Since I tried putting this poll in it’s own forum page that got locked, I decided that it should be reworked so it’s just about The Beatles and not bands in general and put it on this page:

I voted yes, but I think you may be missing the point. Someone born too late to have memories of The Beatles being on TV or the radio before they broke up is not a first generation fan.

I was born in 1970. My earliest memory of The Beatles is probably from 1975. My earliest Elvis memories are from around 1973.

It would probably be a stretch to say I was a first generation Elvis fan because I was only 7 when he died, but I was in fact rocking out to Hound Dog while Elvis was still performing it. So, I guess you could say I am a first generation Elvis fan. You couldn’t say the same of The Beatles.

Long term memories start up around 3-4 years old. Someone born in 1965/6 would be the absolute earliest First Gen Beatles fan in terms of being able to remember the Beatles while they are active.
