I met the Beatles in Weston super Mare in 1962 when me and my friend Carol were on a caravan holiday with my parents. They were going in to do a show with Gerry and The Pacemakers at The Odeon. My friend and I stood talking to Paul and John and Brian Epstein ran round the corner and told them they had got to go and rehearse . John and Paul asked us to meet them after the show but they obviously didn’t know that we were only 14 and had to be back at the caravan by 8.30 ! We had no idea who any of them were until a few weeks later when they were number one in the charts – we were so shocked and couldn’t believe what had happened and that we had stood them up !!! Carol and I are 70 now and are still in touch and talk about what happened.

Used to see John’s white Rolls all the time……Don’t know if he was in it? ………Blacked out windows. Knew it was John’s had a tv arial. He was living with Yoko in Marylebone for a while. Also waited outside Marylebone magistrates court and he brushed passed me looking very dapper on his way into court . That was the only time I ever saw him in the flesh.

Paul quite a few times…….Never had the courage to take the opportunity to speak to him…..when I so easily could have. Seemed intrusive and naff.

Actually one story I may have said here before…..My 2nd wife an Aussie wanted to see him up close. We had tickets for Standing Stones at the Royal Albert Hall. Biggish crowd and TV cameras round the Artist’s Entrance was a clue he was coming……My wife 15 years younger than me and a blond stunner…….with her good looks and sharp elbows she got us fairly close…….When along comes this snotty bitch from MTV…..pushing through the crowd calling out ……..’I’m not people… I’m MTV’

My wife looks at me in Aussie consternation…..Which means she was ready for battle……Now remember I’m close to Paul’s age……I call out…..”Let me through I’m Paul’s love child’

Got a laugh from the crowd and my wife……but not any closer.
