The Phil Spector entry here is interesting, but I've wondered for a while now: Why was Phil on the same flight as the Beatles when they made their first U.S. visit? Was it sheerly coincidence? Did he go along just to be part of the scene? Did he have designs on producing the Fabs?
Has anyone read an incredible accounts on this specifically? Everything I see just says "Phil was on the flight," but not why.

Have not heard that before... I'd be curious to know the source(s). That would be rather incredible on a number of levels!

Damn. I read something about this quite recently, but can't remember where. If it comes back to me I'll pass on the info. I presume you know the story about him being so nervous of flying that he paced up and down the aeroplane throughout the flight - Ringo quipped that he'd "walked to America".

In Olivia's book that accompanied George Harrison : Living in the Material World, there were pictures of Phil taken by George while on that flight.

OMGOMGOMG!!! PICK ME! PICK ME! I HAVE THE AWNSER!!! This is crazy how this happened, but I got a book about the Beatles out of my school library and am reading it for fun, and I just came accrost this!
The eccentric Spector had taken the Beatles flight rather than the one with his own group, the Ronettes, which included his girlfriend and future wife. It was said he was terrified of flying and had convinced himself the odds were lower that something might happen to the Beatles' plane.
So far, the book is pretty good (even though I already know like 70% of the stuff in it) Its called "Meet the Beatles" by Steven D. Stark. (this perticular quote was on page 15, FYI)

Ha, never heard that!
Isn't there another Spector/Beatles anecdote about Phil being super-jealous and protective of Ronnie and not wanting to leave her alone on a flight with the Beatles?
One day, a tape-op got a tape on backwards, he went to play it, and it was all "Neeeradno-undowarrroom" and it was "Wow! Sounds Indian!"

Great story!
So he was there at the beginning - and then again at the very end.
I wonder if he's written about this. He certainly would have the time now.
You definitely get a Mal from me
