It’s a mixture of things, their energy, their tight friendships that they had since they were teenagers (ignoring Ringo), their personalities and willingness to be a bit out of the norm (which I guess you can credit their Liverpool background to that), Lennon-McCartney’s writing abilities, both Ringo’s and George’s ability to identify *exactly* what a track needed in order to fully compliment it. Also looking at the outside the world, post-Kennedy administration, the continuing bubble of the Cold War, the Women’s Liberation Movement, Civil Rights – it was a time of political and societal change and progression and The Beatles fit perfectly into it.

ASJ nailed it. Their ability to appreciate what each member brings and finding ways to play off of each other. Billy Preston was as good as any Beatle in that regard, and George Martin was huge in bringing it all together. Not to mention the way that Lennon, Mccartney Harrison and Starr have developed massive cult followings.

Yes! I think that pretty much nails it perfectly.
I want to add what makes the Beatles The Beatles for me and why I think they are so special 🙂
I was thinking about this a lot the past days because I was doing another chronological listenthrough the UK album during my gym work outs. Started on Tuesday last Week and will finish today with the Past Masters Volumes. Yesterday Abbey Road and Let it Be and some audiobook because I knew I would not make it through one more LP. And I dont like stopping in the middle of an LP listening. (Didnt do a Listen on Saturday at the gym because I was there at 7 am and that was just to early for me for music)
What makes the fab four The Beatles and what makes them so special?! Well like I said the quotes say it pretty good. I want to point out their evolution too. Every time I make a go through their LPs it amazes me how they evolve through the albums and in such short amount of time. They start of rather simple but are already pretty far evolved and differend for their time and during their era they evolve more and more and change their style and writing so massivly its mindblowing. When you listen through their canon its so exciting to experience their evolution and changes in sytle and themes. I really think that no other Band in history evolved so much and so drasticly during their active time like the Beatles did.
