To avoid seeing the news thread being weighed down with speculation about an upcoming “archive” project that Kevin Howlett alluded to in a recent interview, I have decided to start this thread for speculation.

mmm’s suggestion regarding newly unearthed footage is an interesting one, though they have done nothing official (bar Anthology and First US Visit) with the footage that has long been available.

A couple of suggestions –

The “Beatles Live” project that seemed to have Apple approval late last year when the request went out for any unknown material;

Ringo hinted a Let It Be DVD was on its way just two or three months ago, which Paul didn’t dismiss when asked about what Ringo had said;

a DVD collecting together their videos/promo films.

Just some suggestions, what do you think?

I know we are all craving the Let It Be dvd but amongst my pleasure at finally an official release i’d be thoroughly pissed if it was just the movie dvd that was this secret project. It’s about time that Apple opened the studio archives (i know, we have just had the BBC archives opened) and gave us something extra never-before-heard exciting.

A proper complete dvd collection would be great but complete with every single original promo being included, not a ‘1’ dvd collection with/or newly created promo’s.

As for the rumours, anyone remember the reports of a long lost never heard before Beatles song having been found in 1999 and how incredibly amazing this was – turned out to be the original footage of the Hey Bulldog sessions. Great as that was to see it didn’t meet the stories put out there.

Great call with this new topic. It’ll be interesting to see all the theories members with deep Beatley knowledge come up with.

As noted elsewhere I would love to hear all the old stuff they jammed on during the Get Back sessions and as MMM says a proper go at a Let It Be film on DVD / Bluray.

If we go down the looking in to the past to determine the future route we have just had On Air – Live At The BBC Volume 2. In 1994 we got volume 1 and what came after volume 1?a-hard-days-night-ringo-6

A studio box of more outtakes, again never heard before tracks including Carnival Of Light , Tip of My Tongue, Helter Skelter take 3, a 1963 version of What Goes On . Isn’t there a demo from the cavern of When I’m Sixty-Four ? Apple can finally give us a complete Not Guilty . Maybe Apple can throw in the other reunion track that was shelved – Now And Then

A Live compendium would be great, featuring some concerts that haven’t booted (there is a Cavern performance or rehearsal Paul bought, a 1963 concert from Bournemouth or somewhere, maybe Apple have a recording from the ’65 UK tour) – surely that plea from last year for material has some point to it.

How about an official Christmas album with a bonus cd of outtakes and dialogue from the sessions – alongside Let It Be this is one of the few official releases that has never seen the light of day.

A demo’s album going thru the years.

Or the biggest shocker and long shot of all – The Beatles and Pete Best, after 52 years giving Pete his place in history with a cd full of tracks on which he drummed plus on record interviews with the other Beatles were they admit Pete was sacked due to jealousy and Pete was a far better drummer. We never did get the bbc songs he is on, is this the reason?

Or the most likely of all… new official merchandise!!! Melon shapers, stocking repair kits, banana rulers (to check their bendiness), lipstick removal sticks, disposal cutlery, cable ties, edible paper (comes in 4 flavours)… the possibilities and profits are endless. All limited to 45 billion each.

I’m not sure, however tempted they may be, Apple finally going ahead with your million-and-one merchandise suggestions would count as an “archive” project!

The following should see official archive availability in one way or another:

1.  Live performances, particularly those where there is video material (Washington, Shea Stadium, Circus Krone, Budokan etc.)

2.  Promotional films, in full.

3.  Esher demos.

6.  Hollywood Bowl recordings, all 3, in full (possibly synched with film where it exists).

7.  Let It Be ; also the full rooftop performance.

8.  The Christmas recordings, studio quality please.

9.  All existing studio tapes, available for download on a track-by-track basis.  Ideally as multitracks, with mix-it-yoursellf software available.

10.  All Things Must Pass , edited from Twickenham rehearsal versions into a coherent group recording using current time-stretching and pitch correction software.

I reckon there might be chances of partial success with 1 to 8.

Sorry but why should there be a reconstructed All Things Must Pass from the Get Back sessions? What benefit would that bring to the Beatles or George or even us? Going from the recordings themselves John and Paul could not muster any enthusiasm for the song so to bring together a half-decent concoction would be a massive undertaking never mind a coherent group recording.

Personally speaking the edited hodgepodges takes on the Anthology discs were bad enough, to give us more would be one of my dis-pleasures, especially of a track 2 Beatles couldn’t raise enough energy to treat with any respect.

Maybe the tapes from Hamburg cleaned up with the full Decca auditions as a bonus disc?

George hated the Hamburg tapes calling them crummy, cannot for the life of me see Olivia sanctioning a full official release of them regardless of their inclusion in Living in the Material World.

Details of George’s evidence at London’s High Court in the court battle Apple v Lingasong.

Well – they can’t be the Threetles anymore – would that make them the Tootles?

Paul and Ringo are going to overdub a John and George aimless jam from Twickenham with new vocals, lyrics and instruments and release it on February 9th 2014? Or has Yoko donated an outtake from the Imagine sessions?

Finally we will get that 3 minute Carnival Of Light edit and a Here Comes The Sun mishmash taken from 7 different takes and 4 alternate mixes. Thank you Apple, you are the best.heart

I wonder how many years of being a Beatles fan it will take for me to become jaded about what we don’t haveof their music. I’m still swimming happily in all the music I do have from them.

But, to support the rest of you, I will still help with the plan on how to raid the Apple vault.

About 2-3. Then you’ll get into the mindset of “OK, why doesn’t the marathon jam of “Helter Skelter ” see the light of day?”

Forget them, there’s what, 40 rumored takes of “Ob-La-Di?” Let’s hear a mishmash remix version with something from all 40 takes! a-hard-days-night-george-10

Listening to what Apple gave/give us and then what is out there on bootlegs should do it, if not a bit of further reading will suffice.
