We’re doing “In My Life in Vocal Chamber Ensembles, and the melody line is for a soloist. This is essentially a self directed Ensembles, so she was unsure how we should select the soloist(s). Either we would choose them ourselves, or she would choose them through auditions. I suggested she hold auditions and stated that she should be the Brian Epstein to any Pete Bests who want the solo.

I was taking the CDT (that test you take so teachers can see where you’re at) in algebra today and John was the first word I read in the first question a-hard-days-night-john-1

I’m sitting at lunch listening to Come Together , eating a apple01out of my Abbey Road lunchbox, wearing 4 rings, a Sgt. Pepper skirt, a Beatles shirt, a Union Jack sweater with Beatles pins on it, a Beatles lanyard with my ID on it, Beatles socks, and a pair of Beatle Boots. I’m literally a walking, talking Beatles reference at my school right now.

That’s dedication!

What does the skirt look like? I’m a fan of skirts and dresses.

Awww it’s very cute. Unfortunately, I’ve got quite big thighs so pencil skirts look terrible on me.

I’ve involuntarily (and also voluntarily) made quite a few Beatles references in school last week.

First, there was this game in English class, where we got a text and the student in the front row should start reading it and as soon as he pronounces something wrong or makes any mistake, really, it’s the next student’s turn, and so it goes on and on. I was the fourth, I think, and the ones before me had all read large pieces of text without one single mistake, so I was a bit anxious that I wouldn’t manage more than a sentence. I started reading and right at the beginning, there came a sentence of the like ‘he was drinking gin from a bottle when suddenly the door swung open’ (it was something about pirates)-and I honestly read out aloud ‘he was sminking the gin’.paul-mccartney-facepalm_gif

Then two days later, in biology class, we read something about Charles Darwin and, of course, while reading the text to the class I spontaneously renamed Darwin’s ship, the Beagle, into… well, I think that’s pretty obvious, what I read instead of ‘beagle’, eh?paul-mccartney-facepalm_gifpaul-mccartney-facepalm_gif

But, as I said, there has also been something on purpose: We’re talking about overinterpreting literature in school in German classes at the moment and when I made my point about this topic I took ‘I Am The Walrus ‘ as an example of active resistance against overinterpretation.

Not once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. Erlewine on Sgt Pepper's

I’ve had this problem with our curriculum for quite sometime now, and recently I used this as an example. My English teacher didn’t know what I was talking about, so I walked away!

A few:

In my first draft for my English creative piece, I got 4 references in 4 lines:

“Yes”, I said.

‘No”, she said.

“She said yes, I say no, no, no” I said.

“Stop arguing you two”, George said. The two of us kept playing (etc)

paul-mccartney-facepalm_gif

Also, for a music sound production task, I had to choose a genre (psychedelic rock), and I was given a genre (grunge), and I had to give a presentation, with examples. I used Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite for my example of psychedelic rock!

Oh, and I referenced John and Yoko’s bed-ins in my humanities class.john-lennon-salute_gif

Today, I wrote my music exam and one task was to disprove an authors opinion on Ella Fitzgerald who had called her voice ‘childish’, said she ‘wasn’t a jazz singer’, and that she could maybe sing some feel-good swing standards but when it comes to serious business like blues she couldn’t cope. The last one I disproved by pointing out how fine Ella had covered Can’t Buy Me Love – a 12-bar blues! (Since Ella basically made a swing song out of it that was a pretty weak argument, oh well, I simply couldn’t resist mentioning her connection to the Beatles paul-mccartney-facepalm_gif).

Additionally, a while ago our German teacher retired and because she loved being a teacher so much and didn’t want to go she asked each of us to write her a top ten list of things we think she still has to do in her life. At no.9 I wrote: See Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr liveahdn_george_08

We got told in music at school today our first 2 group songs, one of which is Come Together ! Sadly there were quite a few sighs and disappointments from fellow classmates and there was only the Two Of Us who were excited for it.

I went to hear a band at B.B. King’s Blues Club over the Thanksgiving Break. The band leader said that they played all kinds of music and that they took requests. I requested a Beatles song. When the first notes of Come Together started swirling around in the club, people came alive. They started singing and pumping their arms in the air. Your classmates need to get with the program. People still love the Beatles!
