Haha I appreciate the creativity of this version too. Sounds like audio from an old school YTP or YTPMV.a-hard-days-night-paul-7

I’ve only heard YO/POB and Fly but love both of those as experimental rock albums. Feel like Why is Krautrock adjacent or something.

Since Yoko’s birthday I’ve had something on my mind. Why didn’t John just let Yoko continue with her existing career? Yoko already had a following for her avant-garde art, film and poetry. She could have easily morphed into a multimedia artist similar to Laurie Anderson, with a perhaps small but loyal fanbase similar to a jazz/blues artist. What was really the purpose of having her join him and Clapton at Live Peace In Toronto (1969)? No one had seen any of the Beatles live in years, so why place so much pressure on her career at such an over-amped event. Don’t know why I’ve been stuck on this, I’m probably forgetting something…

Here is one of Anderson’s initial pieces if you aren’t familiar with her.

Even though I’m not a Yoko fan I’m glad she gets a lot of love on this forum. Even in these later days she gets too much abuse shoved her way.m

AH yes, I’ve seen [Laurie Anderson’s O Superman]… not sure how or where. I’m still not sure to this day just what it was I witnessed… a-hard-days-night-paul-7

I remember you commenting on it when I posted it in either “What are you listening to…” or “Song you’re on a kick…”

You were equally perplexed, and commented something similar along the lines of you having no idea what it was you’d just heard…

   *************************

This cropped up in YT recommendations, from last September… an artist called Tot Taylor (not a name I know…):

This autumn I’ll be releasing some new music. [snip] The first is a love-letter – to my favourite Beatle – Yoko Ono. [snip] Here’s a bit about the Yoko song: was listening to the radio one day and the DJ mentioned ‘answer records’. He played Oh, Carol, Neil Sedaka’s big hit about Carole King which went to #1 on the Billboard Top One Hundred (1961). Carole responded with an ‘answer record’, Oh, Neil, that same year. I was at school when I first heard John Lennon ’s Oh, Yoko! from Imagine  – which I took to be a kind of answer to Oh, Carol. I then read that John had liked Lonnie Donegan’s skiffle song Lost John (1956), while Oh Yoko! sounded a little like Oh, Carol and Lost John combined, with its skiffle beat and tender lyric. I wondered why there’d never been an answer record to that. So I’ve written one. Yoko, Oh (the official answer to Oh, Yoko!) released in two editions, on David Camp’s new The Campus label.

It’s Yoko’s birthday today!

Her Twitter had a nice post:

I was born February 18th, 1933 during a heavy snow in Tokyo. In the morning the nurse opened the curtains to the window to show my mother what happened to the city over the night. The whole city was blanketed with snow, which was shining under the blue sky.

that’s the drawback of streaming, they know which bits to withold to make people buy the full thing, which of course I always end up doing because i’m a stupid savant.

I’m listening to them now and I’m being blown away. They are basically the reason I bought the box set.

Happy 90th Birthday Yoko! yoko-ono_01 Here are a few of her songs I’ve enjoyed through the years. In the spoiler is a Pinky and the brain cartoon spoof of how Yoyo Nono broke up the Feebles. If you didn’t like Rutles, you should probably skip it.

New book out:

Yoko Ono: An Artful Life

Yoko.PNGImage Enlarger

For more than sixty years, Yoko Ono has fascinated us as one of the world’s most innovative, radical artists.

From a childhood of both extraordinary privilege and extreme deprivation in war-time Japan, she adopted an outsider’s persona and moved to America where, after a spell at Sarah Lawrence College, she made a place for herself in bohemian arts circles. She was already twice divorced and established as a performance artist in the Fluxus movement and in Tokyo’s avant-garde scene before her fortuitous meeting with the Beatles’ John Lennon at a London Gallery in 1966.

Their intense yet fraught relationship, reputed to have blown-up the Beatles, made headlines around the world, as did their famous bed-ins in protest of the Vietnam war, and their majestic, Grammy-winning musical collaborations.

Through it all, and for decades after Lennon’s tragic death, she remained defiantly herself. Yoko Ono: An Artful Life charts her journey of personal turmoil, artistic evolution, and activism, and at last tells her iconic story on her own terms.
