Eddie Deezen, whose name you might not recognise but you’ve definitely seen his face or heard his voice before (he plays/voices all of the famous ‘nerd’ characters in films from the 70s onwards- Eugene in Grease, The Know-It-All in The Polar Express, Mandark in Dexter’s Laboratory and the most Beatley of all Richard/Ringo in I Wanna Hold Your Hand), is a self-declared “biggest fan” of The Beatles. He made this quiz in 2013 where if you could answer all 17 questions correctly, you’d win $100. The contest closed in late 2014 but no one ever got all of the answers correct.

You can see where I’m going with this.

Let’s see if the Biblers can put our noggins together and try and answer all the questions before Ron Nasty helps us finish them ;). Here’s the questions:

1) WHO REPEATEDLY CALLED BRIAN EPSTEIN A JEW RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE BEATLES IN 1964?

2) WHAT IS PAUL’S FAVORITE MARX BROTHERS FILM?

3) WHICH BEATLE KISSED A MAN IN PUBLIC IN THE ’60’S?

4) WHICH BEATLE APPEARED IN DRAG IN PUBLIC BEFORE THE BEATLES WERE FAMOUS?

5) JOHN WAS RAISED BY HIS AUNT MIMI. WHAT WAS THE ONLY OCCASION WHERE AUNT MIMI GAVE JOHN A BEATING?

6) NAME EVERY TIME A BEATLE MET AN EX-, A CURRENT OR A FUTURE U.S. PRESIDENT?

7) WHICH BEATLE WAS SHOT AT AS A YOUTH?

8) WHO DID JOHN SAY WAS “ONE OF OUR FAVORITE COMEDIANS”, MEANING HIS AND YOKO’S?

9) WHAT WAS JOHN’S FAVORITE STORY IN “IN HIS OWN WRITE”?

10) WHAT MOVIE STAR WAS RINGO TOO SHY TO APPROACH WHEN HE SAW HIM IN A RESTAURANT?

11) WHAT WAS JOHN’S NICKNAME FOR THE GUITAR HE LOST IN 1963?

12) WHAT ODDLY NAMED PERSON DID PAUL INVITE TO WATCH A BEATLES RECORDING SESSION IN 1968?

13) WHAT CLASSIC TV SERIES INSPIRED A BEATLE SONG?

14) WHICH BEATLE WAS DOUBLED FOR IN A SCENE IN “A Hard Day’s Night “?

15) JOHN WAS ASKED IN THE ’60’S TO NAME THE GROUPS HE MOST ADMIRED. WHICH THREE GROUPS DID JOHN SAY HE LIKED BEST?

16) WHAT DID GEORGE ALWAYS ASK PAUL’S FATHER FOR?

17) IN 1969, AFTER THE BEATLES BREAK-UP, JOHN LEFT YOKO, AFTER BEING WITH HER 24 HOURS A DAY FOR OVER A YEAR. WHO DID HE GO SEE?

I’ll let some of you chime in before I give some of the answers I know, or think I know, at the very least. Note: be nice and if you know all of the answers, don’t give them all away in one go, let other people have a turn 😉 .

Also, give evidence to your answer whether it be a quote, interview, video clip, photo- whatever, as Eddie never released an answer key!

All I know is number 14

John was doubled in the scene of them running around for Can’t Buy Me Love as he was otherwise occupied, promoting ‘In His Own Write’

Is number 12 Jesus? I remember a story about a guy knocking on Paul’s door, and Paul asking him what his name was. The guy said Jesus. Then Paul took him to watch a recording session.

I’ll look up this answer and see if I’m right.

Edit: Yes, it was Jesus Christ who say in on the recording of Fixing A Hole . https://www.beatlesbible.com/1…..ng-a-hole/

7. I’m 98.7% sure is John for trespassing on private property. I’m sure I’ve read it before, only problem is I can’t find a citation for it.

For 6. I can start off with John:

He was at Carter’s inaugural ball, we don’t have any video, photos or anecdotes of them meeting but he at least had to say “hi”.

John met Reagan:

And that’s it, I think.

George met President Gerald Ford in ‘74.

Pau met Obama when he had that tribute night in the White House.

Paul and Bill Clinton

John trespassing is in ‘Tune In’ as is the Beatle getting shot but I cannot remember who it was. I want to say Paul.

Is number 13 Batman? I read somewhere that EMI sent each Beatle a copy of the theme tune, and Taxman was the result.

Edit: From the book Beatles ’66 by Steve Turner:

Taxman became a smart little pop art song with references to Harold Wilson and Edward Heath (leader of the opposition Conservative party) and a chorus inspired by the theme song from the newly launched Batman TV series, starring Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin. Batman had yet to be screened in Britain, but George (along with the other Beatles) had been sent the single “Batman theme” as covered by the Marketts, and it was already on his home jukebox”

Re number 11:

I found it on Wikipedia, and according to them, the nickname of his lost guitar was ‘Hamburg’. Unfortunately, Wikipedia isn’t the most reliable of sources, and I haven’t been able to find it anywhere else. Can anyone confirm that it was ‘Hamburg’?

Batman did influence ‘Taxman ’, I just find it difficult to believe there was only one.

According to May Pang, Johns favourite comedian was Jonathan Winters. Anyone know if he was Yoko’s?

I know the answers to none of these, so I thought I’d do the sensible thing and make them all up for fun.  If one of these is right by accident I’ll eat my hat.

AppleScruffJunior said
1) WHO REPEATEDLY CALLED BRIAN EPSTEIN A JEW RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE BEATLES IN 1964?

Ed Sullivan, notably a bit anti-Semitic

2) WHAT IS PAUL’S FAVORITE MARX BROTHERS FILM?

I’d be lying if I said I had any  idea who the Marx Brother’s are, so I’ll just say he liked Marxism: a deep dive into our ancestor Karl Marx, though this one wasn’t easy to find unless you knew the right people because of all the anticommunist blacklisting going on in showbusiness at the time.

3) WHICH BEATLE KISSED A MAN IN PUBLIC IN THE ’60’S?

Well see kiss is actually another word for punch in this context.  John Lennon notably “kissed” Bob Wooler at Paul McCartney ‘s 21st birthday party.

4) WHICH BEATLE APPEARED IN DRAG IN PUBLIC BEFORE THE BEATLES WERE FAMOUS?

John.  Here is some pictoral evidence.

25b3b054-b29a-4cc1-8231-287c016ea9ec-1.jpgImage Enlarger

5) JOHN WAS RAISED BY HIS AUNT MIMI. WHAT WAS THE ONLY OCCASION WHERE AUNT MIMI GAVE JOHN A BEATING?

John was caught fingering a girl on the sofa, when Mimi came home.  She said “I don’t care if you do it, but I don’t want to see it.”

6) NAME EVERY TIME A BEATLE MET AN EX-, A CURRENT OR A FUTURE U.S. PRESIDENT?

I do have a semi genuine answer in that I know of one meeting, but no others.  Paul McCartney met Barack Obama in 2010 for winning an award, and performed there.  He even sang Michelle for Michelle Obama which was cute.

7) WHICH BEATLE WAS SHOT AT AS A YOUTH?

George.  He learned not to bring a knife to a gun fight after that.

8) WHO DID JOHN SAY WAS “ONE OF OUR FAVORITE COMEDIANS”, MEANING HIS AND YOKO’S?

Paul McCartney . It was intended as a cutting remark.

9) WHAT WAS JOHN’S FAVORITE STORY IN “IN HIS OWN WRITE”?

He was always fond of the story he came up with about how the Beatles came to be.

“Once upon a time there were three little boys called John, George and Paul, by name christened. They decided to get together because they were the getting together type. When they were together they wondered what for after all, what for? So all of a sudden they grew guitars and fashioned a noise. Funnily enough, no one was interested, least of all the three little men. So-o-o-o on discovering a fourth little even littler man called Stuart Sutcliffe running about them they said, quite ‘Sonny get a bass guitar and you will be alright’ and he did – but he wasn’t alright because he couldn’t play it. So they sat on him with comfort ’til he could play. Still there was no beat, and a kindly old man said, quote ‘Thou hast not drums!’ We had no drums! they coffed. So a series of drums came and went and came.

Suddenly, in Scotland, touring with Johnny Gentle, the group (called the Beatles called) discovered they had not a very nice sound – because they had no amplifiers. They got some.

Many people ask what are Beatles? Why Beatles? Ugh, Beatles, how did the name arrive? So we will tell you. It came in a vision – a man appeared on a flaming pie and said unto them ‘From this day on you are Beatles with an ‘A’. Thank you, mister man, they said, thanking him.

And then a man with a beard cut off said – will you go to Germany (Hamburg) and play mighty rock for the peasants for money? And we said we would play mighty anything for money.

But before we could go we had to grow a drummer, so we grew one in West Derby in a club called Some Casbah and his trouble was Pete Best. we called ‘Hello Pete, come off to Germany!’ ‘Yes!’ Zooooom. After a few months, Peter and Paul (who is called McArtrey, son of Jim McArtrey, his father) lit a Kino (cinema) and the German police said ‘Bad Beatles, you must go home and light your English cinemas’. Zooooom, half a group. But before even this, the Gestapo had taken my friend little George Harrison (of speke) away because he was only twelve and too young to vote in Germany; but after two months in England he grew eighteen and the Gestapoes said ‘you can come’. So suddenly all back in Liverpool Village were many groups playing in grey suits and Jim said ‘Why have you no grey suits?’ ‘We don’t like them, Jim’ we said, speaking to Jim.

After playing in the clubs a bit, everyone said ‘Go to Germany!’ So we are. Zooooom Stuart gone. Zoom zoom John (of Woolton) George (of Speke) Peter and Paul zoom zoom. All of them gone. Thank you club members, from John and George (what are friends).”

10) WHAT MOVIE STAR WAS RINGO TOO SHY TO APPROACH WHEN HE SAW HIM IN A RESTAURANT?

Elvis Presley. He counts right? I can’t think of any others.

11) WHAT WAS JOHN’S NICKNAME FOR THE GUITAR HE LOST IN 1963?

Maggie Mae

12) WHAT ODDLY NAMED PERSON DID PAUL INVITE TO WATCH A BEATLES RECORDING SESSION IN 1968?

Well it’s a funny thing really.  A lot people assume John was the first to invite Yoko Ono into the Beatles recording sessions.  It was actually Paul who invited her 2 weeks earlier out of interest for how her artistic perspective might contribute to the now scrapped song “It’s okay to Leave Your Dog in a Hot Car.”  Though the song was never released, a bootleg of the demo still circulates.

13) WHAT CLASSIC TV SERIES INSPIRED A BEATLE SONG?

Leave it to Beaver was a huge inspiration for McCartney’s Rocky Raccoon .  The song was originally called Rocky Beaver.

14) WHICH BEATLE WAS DOUBLED FOR IN A SCENE IN “A Hard Day’s Night “?

Ringo actually needed a double for the jumping scene because he was afraid of heights.

15) JOHN WAS ASKED IN THE ’60’S TO NAME THE GROUPS HE MOST ADMIRED. WHICH THREE GROUPS DID JOHN SAY HE LIKED BEST?

Genuine guess: Beach Boys , The Who, Simon and Garfunkel

16) WHAT DID GEORGE ALWAYS ASK PAUL’S FATHER FOR?

A gin and tonic. George was a cheeky lad.ahdn_george_06

17) IN 1969, AFTER THE BEATLES BREAK-UP, JOHN LEFT YOKO, AFTER BEING WITH HER 24 HOURS A DAY FOR OVER A YEAR. WHO DID HE GO SEE?

He visited his mother’s grave.

So … Yeah

DISCLAIMER: THESE ARE (almost) ALL MADE UP AND ALMOST DEFINITELY FALSE.

I’m just going to take my best guess at all of them.

AppleScruffJunior said

1) WHO REPEATEDLY CALLED BRIAN EPSTEIN A JEW RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE BEATLES IN 1964?

Could be anyone. Uh… Aunt Mimi, maybe? No idea.

2) WHAT IS PAUL’S FAVORITE MARX BROTHERS FILM?

Idk… A Night At The Opera?

3) WHICH BEATLE KISSED A MAN IN PUBLIC IN THE ’60’S?

I would guess John, but I have no idea.

4) WHICH BEATLE APPEARED IN DRAG IN PUBLIC BEFORE THE BEATLES WERE FAMOUS?

…probably John but my second guess is George (*winks at the Rutles*)

5) JOHN WAS RAISED BY HIS AUNT MIMI. WHAT WAS THE ONLY OCCASION WHERE AUNT MIMI GAVE JOHN A BEATING?

Not a clue, so I’ll guess he put something nasty in her shampoo.

6) NAME EVERY TIME A BEATLE MET AN EX-, A CURRENT OR A FUTURE U.S. PRESIDENT?

not even going to try

7) WHICH BEATLE WAS SHOT AT AS A YOUTH?

Ack… um… I’m going to guess George, but I very much hope I’m wrong…

8) WHO DID JOHN SAY WAS “ONE OF OUR FAVORITE COMEDIANS”, MEANING HIS AND YOKO’S?

Idk. Does Eric Idle count?

9) WHAT WAS JOHN’S FAVORITE STORY IN “IN HIS OWN WRITE”?

Sad Michael?

10) WHAT MOVIE STAR WAS RINGO TOO SHY TO APPROACH WHEN HE SAW HIM IN A RESTAURANT?

I have no idea. Was Clint Eastwood a thing back then?

11) WHAT WAS JOHN’S NICKNAME FOR THE GUITAR HE LOST IN 1963?

“Rocky The First.” idk

12) WHAT ODDLY NAMED PERSON DID PAUL INVITE TO WATCH A BEATLES RECORDING SESSION IN 1968?

Enegelbert Humperdinck? I am certain I spelled that wrong.

13) WHAT CLASSIC TV SERIES INSPIRED A BEATLE SONG?

I have no idea. Literally no idea.

14) WHICH BEATLE WAS DOUBLED FOR IN A SCENE IN “A Hard Day’s Night “?

The only question I actually can answer! John.

15) JOHN WAS ASKED IN THE ’60’S TO NAME THE GROUPS HE MOST ADMIRED. WHICH THREE GROUPS DID JOHN SAY HE LIKED BEST?

no idea

16) WHAT DID GEORGE ALWAYS ASK PAUL’S FATHER FOR?

Money? Guitar strings? Could be anything

17) IN 1969, AFTER THE BEATLES BREAK-UP, JOHN LEFT YOKO, AFTER BEING WITH HER 24 HOURS A DAY FOR OVER A YEAR. WHO DID HE GO SEE?

Julian, maybe?

Love one another.

I don’t think that all the questions are either right or make sense.

For instance,

17) IN 1969, AFTER THE BEATLES BREAK-UP, JOHN LEFT YOKO, AFTER BEING WITH HER 24 HOURS A DAY FOR OVER A YEAR. WHO DID HE GO SEE?

The Beatles break-up happened in early 1970 (Lives on a farm, got plenty of charm, beep, beep, etc… a-hard-days-night-george-10);

or,

15) JOHN WAS ASKED IN THE ’60’S TO NAME THE GROUPS HE MOST ADMIRED. WHICH THREE GROUPS DID JOHN SAY HE LIKED BEST?

When in the ’60s? Which interview? A standard interview question, to which a John 1963 answer would differ hugely from a John 1969 answer.
