"Oh God ...! He's getting bossy now...!  [To Klaus's wife:] Is he like this at home...?"

If I had been Klaus, I would have smiled, and with my broad friendly smile said "F**k you, Paul!" a-hard-days-night-paul-4

Sexi Exi info from John & Paul: A Love Story in Songs (just a few excerpts on this topic) pp. 44-45

Voormann, Kirchher, and Vollmer became regulars [at the Kaiserkeller]. They stood out from the crowd of sailors and mobsters. Most Kaiserkeller customers talked among themselves; these three observed the band closely, from a table near the stage.

As with everyone who fell for the band - then and since - it was the people as much as the music that compelled them. Astrid said, "They looked absolutely astonishing...my whole life changed in a couple of minutes. All I wanted was to be with them and to know them."

[Astrid] took the Beatles seriously as artists, rather than just kids having fun with guitars. Not long after their first meeting, Astrid invited the Beatles to a deserted fairground for a photo shoot. Instead of aiming for show-business glamor, Astrid presented the Beatles as pensive, scruffy rebels. She had them pose among shuttered carnival booth and empty rides: the structures that remain when all the glitz is stripped away. A group of young men who loved to clown around returned solemn gazes to the camera. Up onstage, blasting out "What'd I Say," the Beatles were a wild, whirling fairground ride. Astrid say that they were not just that.

I wonder how disappointed the Exis were when they first saw the boys performing in their new Brian-approved matching suits, after the leathers were abandoned?

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Is my impression correct that Klaus only appears early on pre-Epstein, then disappears until after Epstein's death, where he pops up again doing stuff with his four laddies?

From Paul:

He also knew us well enough to capture us rather beautifully in the drawings.

That's my favorite thing about Klaus's Beatles art in particular, is that not only is he a very technically skilled artist, but he also has a very keen eye for capturing personality and mood in kind of a whimsical way. When he does artwork of people he knew well personally, he really does capture more than just their appearance, but how they really were. Any decent artist can draw portraits of John, Paul, George and Ringo that look like them. But Klaus's drawings give us a glimpse into what it must be like to have actually interacted with them.

I just ordered a print of this a-hard-days-night-paul-7
https://shopping.voormann.com/.....bbey-road/

I am normally not a big spender so that was a lot of money for me blue-meanie I've wanted a Voormann print for YEARS, and I feel like it's a decent investment. Besides, who knows how much longer we'll have Klaus around to sign things a-hard-days-night-paul-10 I would be absolutely heartbroken if I had missed out on getting a signed one, y'know? ahdn_paul_01
