So I got this idea from the other solo Beatles 1 topic. However, rather than having solo #1 singles, this album consists of solo songs that resemble the songs on “1” in one way or another. For example we could put “Isn’t It A Pity ” in place of “Hey Jude “, or “Imagine ” in place of “Let It Be “.
*Try to avoid rerecordings, like Ringo’s “Love Me Do ” from Vertical Man, and Paul’s “Long And Winding Road” and “Eleanor Rigby ” from Give My Regards To Broad Street .
*Also try to avoid covers since there wasn’t any on the original “1”. A Beatle had to have written to the song, although it doesn’t have to be the same Beatle singing(mostly in the case of Ringo songs).
Here is the “1” tracklist as well as the paralleled solo songs which will be added/adjusted as decided.
1 Love Me Do —————————-
2 From Me To You ———————-Write A Letter (Paul)
3 She Loves You ————————
4 I Want To Hold Your Hand ———-Hi, Hi, Hi (Paul)
5 Can’t Buy Me Love ——————-
6 A Hard Day’s Night ——————-I’ll Give You A Ring
7 I Feel Fine —————————–She’s My Baby (Paul)
8 Eight Days A Week ——————-Everyday (Ringo)
9 Ticket To Ride ————————-Don’t Let Me Wait Too Long (George)
10 Help !————————————Cold Turkey (John)
11 Yesterday ——————————Here Today (Paul)
12 Day Tripper —————————-Girlfriend (Paul)
13 We Can Work It Out ——————Eye To Eye (Ringo)
14 Paperback Writer ———————
15 Yellow Submarine ——————–Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey (Paul)
16 Eleanor Rigby ————————-Another Day (Paul)
17 Penny Lane —————————-Crackerbox Palace (George)
18 All You Need Is Love —————–Give Peace A Chance (John)
19 Hello, Goodbye ————————
20 Lady Madonna ————————-Mistress And Maid (Paul)
21 Hey Jude ——————————–Isn’t It A Pity (George)
22 Get Back ———————————–Helen Wheels (Paul)
23 The Ballad Of John And Yoko ——–Eat At Home (Paul)
24 Something ———————————Unknown Delight (George)
25 Come Together ————————-Give Me Some Truth (John)
26 Let It Be ————————————Imagine (John)
27 The Long And Winding Road ——–Ebony And Ivory (Paul)

This is a cool idea, but it doesn’t really make sense to title it “1” since some of the songs won’t be #1s

I see your point, but I’m not sure what else you’d call it. I think I’ll stick with the title so it stays true to the original album. Tho if you have any clever alternate title ideas, I’d love to hear them.

Here are some suggestions:
Don’t Let Me Wait Too Long for Ticket To Ride ?
Here Today for Yesterday ?
It Don’t Come Easy for Get Back ?

I’d go with ‘Give Peace A Chance ‘ for ‘Love Me Do ‘. Simple premise and tune and the first proper solo single (in case someone calls out a bizarre single no one remembers but featured Paul or had “with Ringo” in the artist credit).

What about either Heart Of The Country or Eat At Home for The Ballad of John and Yoko?

The surreal Lennon lyrics on Come Together can match with #9 Dream.

I think #9 Dream is too pretty a replacement for Come Together . Myself, I’d go for Gimme Some Truth .

Sorry I’ve been neglecting this topic for a bit. If you’ve read the In My Life you know I’ve been a tad bit busy. I have a bit of time now so I decided to revive this project.
First, you might have noticed that I changed the title. I came up with the new title and decided it was a bit more appropriate since all the songs aren’t #1’s, however it still stays true to the original title.
There were some good suggestions from you all. @meanmistermustard I’m going for songs that match style and/or theme of the song it’s replacing. I felt like Give Peace A Chance and All You Need Is Love were similar in the sense that they were simple songs encouraging Peace and Love.

I see Hard Day’s Night / Hi Hi Hi as a match – getting down with some lovin’ after a stressful day. All You Need Is Love / Give Me Love works pretty well.
There’s probably lots more matches that work better, but I was mistakenly thinking that only solo singles were eligible, not album tracks.

I put Hi, Hi, Hi for I Want To Hold Your Hand , because it’s very not innocent, while IWTHYH is more innocent.

For me, I’m sticking with Give Me Some Truth for Come Together .
If I were to use Cold Turkey , I’d probably use it as a replacement for Help !.
My reasoning?
Come Together started life as a political campaign song for Timothy Leary, rewritten with lots of interesting wordplay; Give Me Some Truth is a comment on the dishonesty of the political system with lots of interesting wordplay.
Help ! is John crying for just that, though disguised by its upbeat performance; Cold Turkey is also a cry for help, but John’s no longer disguising the pain he’s in.
In the end, I find Cold Turkey too basic and uncomplex lyrically to find it a parallel for the much more complicated Come Together .

But Cold Turkey and Come Together were released at the same time, so close together that i think the former would’ve fit well on Abbey Road , especially if Paul and George decided to join in and are both bluesy rockers although the latter is at a slower pace, that’s why i think they fit together although i can understand your reasoning as well.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

Yeah I appreciate that reasoning…the matches can be sonic or lyrical or thematic.
I think Eleanor Rigby / Another Day works if you think of AD’s protagonist as a much younger Eleanor
Also howbout Get Back / Helen Wheels? They both sound like road trip/driving songs to me.

I like the idea of I Want To Hold Your Hand for Hi, Hi, Hi .
Dylan misheard “I can’t hide” as “I get high”, while Paul always denied drugs were anything to do with Hi, Hi, Hi .
