I think that George is most forgotten and Ringo is least respected. I’ve met a few people who call Ringo the fourth Beatle.

Unless you count by age then Ringo is first.

I’d say:
1. Paul – when people think of him as this people pleasing caricature with a stupid hair dye, or when his image reminds them of an embarrassing uncle dancing at a wedding, or when it seems like he is competing with John (the “real” genius behind the Beatles) or even because he’s still alive (ahem, Norman?).
2. John – when people think he should be up for the worst father of all years award, or when Yoko opens her mouth and says something really stupid or unnecessary.
3. George – when people realize that for all the love & peace that he preached, he was quite a bitter person and had a real mean streak to him.
4. Ringo – nobody dislikes him really except when they want to destroy one of the Beatles’ statues over a stupid, throwaway comment. Even when he says no autographs, no one really has the heart to dislike him. He is, after all, the sexiest Beatle alive 😉

I agree with this. I had a teacher in high school who told me that he doesn’t like Ringo because he thought Ringo was the most arrogant Beatle even though he is the least talented and that repeating “peace and love” all the time comes off as condescending. When you ask someone who their favorite Beatles are Ringo almost always comes last, but I don’t think that’s because he’s disliked. I think most people believe he was just there at the right time and got lucky.

In no particular order (and pure speculation):
John – Conservatives did not like John’s extreme politics especially in the 70s. Those born after he died may get turned off by how we lionize him. Perhaps we overdo it sometimes. I also echo what others already said.
Paul – His my way or the highway attitude. Too extreme with his vegetarian beliefs. Is anybody even allowed to eat a hamburger in front of him?
George – Nothing to add here. I agree with what someone said about his occasional crabby moods.
Ringo – Maybe there are still some Pete Best loyalists who hold a grudge. Not many, but that’s all I can think of.
You are all my friends.

How is believing in peace and love and caring about the environment “too extreme”? I don’t think he is extreme at all with his vegetarianism. He is the lowest rank of vegetarian there is, as he still eats eggs and cheese and drinks milk, so it’s not like he’s vegan and won’t even use things like plastic. He also only asks people to have meat free Mondays – just one day of the week, which I think is very modest and realistic. Personally, I admire Paul for his vegetarian beliefs, and if he doesn’t feel comfortable with somebody eating a hamburger in front of him (which I really doubt is true), I think people should be respectful and understanding of that even if it is a little dramatic. I read somewhere that he makes his band go vegetarian while they’re on tour together, and I think it’s nice that they do that for him.

It’s not a nice thing if they are forced. If they went vegetarian of their own volition when they are on tour then it’s nice but not if Paul makes them.

Yeah I guess you’re right, but he can’t really make them. It’s their choice when it comes down to it.

Is it odd I can’t dislike any of them really? I mean, they were far from perfect of course – regrettable things happened and they must have reasons for certain things they did or didn’t do (like not signing autographs and such). Then again, I’ve just recently found out more about them as to their personalities – I try to look past all the political stuff and just try to enjoy the music. On occasion I might read up on what inspired a song here and there to put it in better context. At least at this early point I can’t really judge. They were only human, in the end.
Call me blissfully ignorant but, there you go.

It’s difficult for me to answer this question only because I have a hard time not seeing all four through my Beatley glasses.
If I had to pick the most disliked by the rest of the world, my guess would be John simply because he was the most polarizing. Most people either loved him or hated him while he was alive.

I think ‘most disliked by society’ depends largely on where you ask. In the US, it’s most likely John. In the UK, it’s Paul – by a lightyear.
Overall, I’d say:
1. Paul – For writing nothing but crap since the Beatles, for granny s**t, for being jealous of John’s genius, for still performing even though he can’t sing for s**t, for being uncool, for wanting the credits reversed on his solo efforts, for ‘it’s a drag’, for being alive, et cetera.
2. John – For Yoko, for breaking up the Beatles (this one applies to Paul as well), for being a dead-beat dad and wife-beater, for ‘bigger than Jesus’, for being anti-war, for ‘imagine no religion’, et cetera.
3. Ringo – For being not the best drummer in the Beatles, for saying peace and love all the time, for ‘no more autographs’, for Yellow Submarine , for replacing Pete Best, et cetera.
4. George – Who?
Not my opinion, obviously. I love them all, even if I identify as a Paulette/Paulvert.

I doubt that’s true. I bet the majority of the people who knew about John Lennon couldn’t have cared less about him just like it is with any other famous person.

I was going to mention his spirituality, but I think most people who aren’t into the Beatles wouldn’t know that about him.
