Offline @SgtPeppersBulldog I haven’t got the CD yet but these previews sound great. Among others I really dig You Just May Be the One, so I’m sure I’ll have it soon. I had tickets for the April 8th show which was scheduled only 2 miles from my home. It’s been rescheduled for July 15th so we’ll see

Just listened through and really loved the re-renditions of Papa Gene’s Blues and Tapioca Tundra. Also, a great backing band with Mike’s son Christian on guitar, Micky’s sister Coco doing some of the backing vocals and Probyn Gregory from Brian Wilson’s band.

Offline I agree, the band is hot and the guys are in great voice and having a blast. I’m even getting at ease with Micky singing Daydream. Don’t think he’ll ever be able to pull off the DJ shuffle though.

I’d guess due to the rights of the songs, it happens quite a lot.

The Monkees enjoyed a resurgence on Saturday morning/afternoon television on CBS from September 1969 to September 1972 (sponsored by General Foods’ Kool-Aid), and on ABC from September 1972 to August 1973. To coincide with the releases of The Monkees Present and Changes albums during this time period, many episodes replaced the older songs with tracks from these recent releases. (This strategy was also employed during the summer of 1967, when many of the first-season episodes had their songs from the first two albums replaced with songs from the then-current single and from the third album Headquarters.)
Makes sense if the uploaded episodes are from rebroadcasts and not the original run as noted by sigh butterfly.

Offline Hey @William Shears Campbell, I copied a guide in the spoiler that includes the original and alternate song selections for each episode. The majority of the episodes on youtube contain the original songs, but there are a few exceptions. Also the guide contains some info and trivia about each episode, in case you are looking for a particular show.
Also, on another subject I went to check out Mike’s business Videoranch on Labor Day. The studio is in an industrial area, but it’s only a short walk to an awesome beach. We stopped and took a picture (unfortunately he wasn’t there).

This is a list of episodes of the television series The Monkees which ran on NBC from 1966 to 1968, on Monday nights at 7:30 PM Eastern (6:30 Central).
The first songs listed are from the original NBC broadcasts. Over the summer of 1967, NBC reran multiple episodes with revised soundtracks to promote the Monkees’ then-current album, Headquarters, and the singles released during that summer. Then, between 1969 and 1973, CBS (and later ABC) reran the episodes on Saturday morning, revising the soundtracks once again to promote the albums The Monkees Present and Changes. All alternate songs are listed where applicable.

On Nez, I’m still very devastated about his passing back in December. Not only was he my favourite Monkee but his solo output was also a big gateway for me into country music. I thought there was something unusual about how much weight he’d lost over the previous year, plus there were quite a few disturbing stories going around that his Videoranch assistant had been allegedly drugging him and preventing him from seeing family and friends.
Whatever the case, I’m sure he’s in a better place right now, some cosmic range beyond the blue horizon
and I applaud Micky for carrying on strong and continuing to tour as he is atm.

Offline Yes, he meant a lot to me too. I’m happy for him that late in life he was able to embrace the Monkees and what the music meant to the fans. That last tour he would talk about that epiphany as a lead in to the song While I Cry. If you haven’t seen it, this is that part from the last concert at the Hollywood Bowl.
They told me what you’d do
If I ever stayed with you
And sure enough,
It all came true.
When I went by his studio, I was moved just to be within his sphere of existence. I was attempting to have my daughter take a picture at the front door with my wool hat on (per our plans up thread) and was surprised at the emotions I felt when I leaned on the door. Probably how he thought of a pioneer like Hank Williams is how I think of him.
And one more time the faded dream
Is saddened by the news
It cannot be a part of me

That “Anthology” is a superb double CD, but it’s all I own, aside from that Season 1 DVD set in the silly cardboard-turntable box. (I really hate gimmicky packaging like such.) Would love to add all six 1966-68 albums in deluxe editions, plus Season 2 and “Head”, if only space and $ weren’t finite…
