I used to think this contest was close, but the more 60s music I listen to, the more I realise that the Beatles had far superior competitors than the Stones.
“While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I’m a naysayer and hatchet man in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a punch and I’ll gladly take another - because I choose to live my life in the company of Ghandi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love. I love you, Sheriff Truman.”

I don’t think that the “rivalry” was so much about their music as it was about both bands’ popularity at the time… When it came to who was “the biggest”, the Stones were really the only other who came remotely close…:-)

I heard a radio programme recently on the topic of which is “the last great Rolling Stones album”. The discussion seemed to come down to their 1970s or early 1980s albums. I’m not sure; I would be interested in others’ opinions on this subject.
And in the end

I’d say Some Girls (’78). The last album that I consider to be ‘great’. But me being the way I am, i’ll worship anything they put out.

Never got into the Stones.
Ending the Beatles in the 60s was the best thing that happened. By ending at a peak they were preserved forever, frozen in time like a myth. The Stones are still going, which John had zero interest in doing. I can see why.

Which songs have both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones recorded?
I know of:
* I Wanna Be Your Man
* Money (That’s What I Want)
* Carol
* Roll Over Beethoven
* Memphis, Tennessee
* Sweet Little Sixteen [but only as a “bootleg recording/outtake” by the Rolling Stones]
Also, the Rolling Stones have performed Come Together live, but I don’t think that’s available as an official recording.
Are there any others?

Both bands also did yet another couple of Chuck Berry numbers, “I’m Talking About You” and “Little Queenie”. (Beatles versions I think are both much better, but I’m biased)
Related, there’s a fun moment from their 1965 “Charlie Is My Darling” documentary, where they’re backstage in Ireland and trying out a couple of recent Beatles songs for fun

Paul is heard messing around with Lady Jane on 14 January 1969 at Twickenham.
The (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction riff is heard on 24 January at Savile Row.
While a chorus or so of Dylan’s Like a Rolling Stone can be heard on 26 January, which the Stones would go on to release a live version of with Bob.
