A lot of bad things happened around that time such as the Altamont Concert, the Kent State massacre, Janis and Jimi passing, The Beatles breaking up, not to mention the government trying to draft me into the army. I was still hitchhiking every day and constantly staying with complete strangers, so I don't think I was too freaked out about Manson. One thing I do remember, hitching a ride in in 1970 Los Angeles was almost impossible.

@sir walter raleigh, you were just posting about streaming services in another thread. When this topic popped up, I thought about that post and about the need to have physical copies of Beatles albums and songs.

I'm not sure what the future of streaming is, but it does remind me of a post online I saw about Millenials have a missing era of photgraphs, before social media was as massive as it is, but after casual photography became digitally stored. Camcorders, flip phones, etc all stored memories and even creative projects that if not carefully backed up and stored, are lost forever on old laptops, phones, and digital cameras.
I don't think streaming is going to completely collapse and we will no longer have access to these music libraries, but as technology has advanced lesser known artists and bands have been left behind and forgotten. Old sheet music that was never recorded, old vinyls that were never digitized, tapes, films, etc are physically eroding, and have already beeb forgotten. Most of this stuff will never be recovered or archived.
We've already seen it happen too digitally with social media, Vine was an enormously popular video platform among my generation that went under, and with it went its entire archive. A lot of these whether we knew or not at the time were cultural landmarks, some of which were saved or reposted by others, but most are gone forever. Youtube's endurance has been huge in keeping a lot of the old internet alive, some people on Beatlesbible have been members since the times I am referencing. This forum and website is still up (please use the amazon links to help Joe) and so our meaningless Beatles opinions will survive, but so many other forums and archives of internet communications are lost forever. I was taught in school a decade ago that your digital footprint is permanent, but that is simply not true. Where are all of the old vines? Where arehere are my old youtube videos from when I was a kid? I took them down, and there is no way to recover them.
My point is that streaming music is uncharted territory, and honestly with movies its even more significant because a lot of the studios and streaming services REFUSE to do physical releases (even when Criterion offered to actually produce the dvds). The Beatles will be remastered repackaged and resold for the foreseabke future, so whatever comes after streaming they will be on. But what about the bands and artists worldwide who now have been granted access to widespread distribution, but pnly through the cloud servers of streaming sites. I have 4 albums on spotify, and Ive already lost the backups and multitracks for all of them (i posted about losing my entire hard drive a while ago, I was being stupid). I am having to PAY for my music to exist in the streaming format. As soon as I stop paying, its gone.
So @Ahhh Girl , I know The Beatles are one of the things you care about the most. Its worth it in my opinion to OWN their music in a format you understand, enjoy, and are capable of using.
