I have two questions – hope it’s ok to combine:

1.  Did any Beatles have financial problems after the breakup? Of the four I would think maybe Ringo because he hadn’t songwriting royalties, his album sales were poorer and I believe at one point he even didn’t have a record deal?

2. When the Beatles played on each others records was there any financial payment? I was thinking that even if you’re just wanting to help a friend, contractually you may have to pay some token amount or some kind of music union scale.

I’m not sure about the second question, but I do know that George had financial difficulties (I think after mortgaging Friar Park to pay for Monty Pythons’ Life of Brian) that led to his involvement with the Anthology project.

That wasn’t from Python, ‘Brian’ more than paid back for George’s risky investment.

However, he was into frivolous spending (cars, cars, cars, fancy holidays, cars, property, cars), and money was proceeding to walk out the door in HandMade Films during the late ’80’s which led to him doing Anthology, which as BeBu rightly said was partially-influenced by the financial gains it offered.

I don’t think Paul could ever get into financial trouble even if he tried, the music royalties he gets from songs that aren’t even his (‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’, ‘Blue Suede Shoes’, ‘Mister Sandman’, he owns ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ and ‘Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire for God ‘s sake!!) must be enormous! If I could get 1% of what MPL receives in royalties on Christmas Eve and Day I’d not have to work for years.
