Watching ‘TOTP’ on BBC4. Isn’t the picture of the fans in the below images taken from one of the Beatles concerts, i think Shea – it looks very familiar? The full performance is here, just skip thru to the CSM song about 10 minutes in (that it may be Beatles related was a welcome distraction).

Random question, but did any other Beatles start a record label when they went solo, other than George (Dark Horse )?

Ring O’Records was started by Ringo in 1975, @Tony Japanese, remaining active through 1978. You can find a little history and a discography here.

OK, we mostly all know by now about Jasper Carrot and his Ringo quote, often misattributed to John. That being said, has anyone found the source for that other supposed John quote – about Pete being the better drummer while Ringo was the better Beatle?

Hello everydoby,
My first post. Not sure it is the right place to do so but we learn by doing, right? Let me know if it should be somewhere else. I’m glad to be on board. Great great website. I have two questions for you Beatle people. I’ve never found the precise info, or don’t remember reading it anywhere but first:
1. When did they exactly start to use their Austin Princess limousine? That was definitely Autumn 1963 but can’t put a date on it.
2. When did they move to London? to that apartment they shared for sometimes. And subsequently, when did John move with Cynthia, Paul to Jane Asher’s parents home and George and Ringo together (in the same building as Brian if I remember well).
Thank you!

Hi Jaune (love that name) — you came to the right place, but unfortunately I’m not as knowledgeable as some others here. There are some here who know an amazing amount of details about The Beatles; if they see your post, no doubt they can answer both questions in seconds flat.
Now today I find, you have changed your mind

Might post this to the John Lennon topic as well-
My first post here since my previous account was lost I believe.
Anyway, I just read an article describing one of my favorite Steely Dan songs that I had never thought too deeply about the meaning of before. Walter Becker and Donald Fagens’ iconic duo Steely Dan released this song not too long after Lennon released Imagine . The song in question is off of their first studio album, “Can’t Buy a Thrill” released in 1972 and is titled: “Only a Fool Would Say That.” Clearly, the lyrics have been confirmed to be written about Lennon’s mega-hit Imagine , and the comments made weren’t anything above disparaging. Actually, as a side note, from all the criticisms Imagine has seen over the years, I feel as though this has been the most accurate in a poetic lyrical sort of way.
Regardless, I wanted to ask around here and find out if there was any known response from John Lennon . Apparently, Fagen met Lennon once in New York City sometime before releasing Can’t Buy a Thrill and Only a Fool Would Say That probably squashed any sort of friendship from thereafter. (But that’s just speculation.)
I’m sure someone has brought this up before but I couldn’t find much on it.
Thanks, hope to learn more!

@Orange7 — I never heard that Steely Dan song before. I like it! Especially these lyrics are quite cutting:
Don’t wanna hear the bad news
Imagine your face there is his place
Standing inside his brown shoes
Drag yourself home half alive
And there on the screen
A man with a dream
Talkin’ ’bout a world where all is free
It just couldn’t be
And only a fool would say that

@Orange7 I am a huge Steely Dan fan and I never knew about the Only A Fool / Imagine link! I assumed it was a cynical allegory for the hippie culture in general, but now I can hear the specific references to John. It almost has the exact opposite sentiment to George’s All Those Years Ago.
Very interesting!

Are there any songs by Paul that would have started out slow and ended up being faster, like John please, please me or Help , or Revolution ?

No. You Never Give Me Your Money is a song that starts at a slow tempo and then evolves into a kinda upbeat thingie. What i was asking is for a song that Paul presented as a ballad/slow tempo song to the others, but the released version is a rocker/upbeat track. Like John did with Please, Please Me, or Help !…

This may have been discussed elsewhere but apologies I can’t seem to find the search option.
Mark Lewisohn mentions Nov16FabDay and says November 16 1962 is an important day in Beatles history as the Beatles and George Martin harmonized their talents. I always assumed he meant this was the day they met. But checking the history section on this site they had already met and recorded together. The history section only mentions a radio appearance on this date. So what momentous event occurred that is not mentioned but we should all celebrate it?
