What if the Beatles had made their 1967 film instead about Sgt Pepper ? It would have been the mother of all entertainment packages - groundbreaking album, partnered with a movie! The concept about the album could have been played out in the movie too - it could have chronicled the Beatles playing different personas as Sgt Pepper 's band...
Would have made for interesting viewing...
Wasn't Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees good enough for you?

We have a thread for that... Smiley suggestions. People aren't just added though, the picture has to convey a meaning that isn't done by existing Smileys and work when scaled down. Nobody's yet found a Linda image that adds anything to our current set.

1 Chas Newby was hired for the bass player for four gigs in Dec 1960, one of those being the very gig, Litherland Town Hall, during which the beatlemania phenomenon literally started. This led to their sound hire at Cavern, beginning on Feb 9, 1961. Newby has been interviewed about does he regret saying no to Lennon's offer of becoming a constant member of the band. He has answered no, because "there were no signs that they could make it." This is simply a lie as the above-mentioned gig really was a big success. Why is Chas Newby lying about the issue so clumsily?
2 Sacking of Pete Best was not down to George Martin, nor to any "jealousy" about him being more popular among girls than some other band member. The Beatles clan have clearly agreed to keep quiet about the issue. Why?
3 Ringo Starr has often said he was a heavy drinker all during his time with The Beatles; we could talk about a serious alcoholic. Still, his memory seems the most accurate on things, if we compare it with Lennon, McCartney, Harrison or Neil Aspinall's. How's that possible?
4 Beatlemania as a nation-wide British phenomenon started in March 1963. This was also the month when their first LP was released and the Beatles business, that still goes on, was founded (consisting of Epstein, Dick James, George Martin, Lennon & McCartney). They already had made an endorsement deal with Vox, and the deal demanded them to use Vox amps exclusively. Five months after the beatlemania had begun as nation-wide, they played four dates at the Springfield, Jersey island. All dates were reportedly sold out. Still, the photos from one of the gigs show that they are having a Fender amp on stage (reportedly their own equipment was in use!), and there are no signs of any craze or mania or even a full-packed venue. How's this possible; spooky, ain't it?
5 George Martin said he first time heard the song Yesterday played by Paul in a Paris hotel room in Jan 1964. Paul himself claims he got the song in his dream in Ashers' house more than a year later. This is odd as George Martin is unlikely to make mistakes with this kind of things.
6 Jane Asher's dad Richard did not just kill himself, he quit all work, all kinds of work, shortly after Paul McCartney had moved in their house.
7 Members of the Dutch design group Fool were closer friends with The Beatles than the remaining members of the band are willing to admit. They were very close for a short time but shortly after the establishment of the Apple company, they vanished to the U.S. and stayed there. Why??? They were close to the most famous and prolific business unit on Earth and they fled just like that!

OK....hopefully someone here can help me. I'm a fan of the Beatles' mid-to-late period output...not so much their early stuff. However, I heard an earlier Beatles song on my radio alarm clock as I was waking up about a year ago that I really liked, but I just can't place it anymore. It was an earlier Beatles song, I believe Paul sang, it wasn't a "popular" song, it had that kind of harsh guitar sound like on Taxman or The Word . I think the subject of the lyrics was a female who done the singer wrong and "you'll get yours" somehow. I'm no musician, but I believe it was in a minor chord...it wasn't a happy sounding song at all. I've been through the song list here, but I still just can't place it!! I'm starting to think it may have been a Beatles sound-a-like group that I'm unaware of. The closest thing I can find to the melody is The Word or Little Girl, but it's neither of those...I think it may have been an earlier song. Thanks for any help. It's driving me nuts!!!
This has got to be I'm Looking Through You , yes?

If John and Paul were not prolific songwriters and the Beatles recorded more cover songs for their albums, what other songs would they have covered beyond their early albums. We know their cover songs reflected their early stage act, but I wonder if they would have recorded more contemporary tunes. For example, might they have covered songs from Stax records, such as "Hold On , I'm Coming"?
If transcripts from the Let It Be film sessions are correct, it seems as though Paul wanted the Beatles to cover "Build Me Up, Buttercup." I can see how the 'call and response' of the original version would make the "Get Back " philosophy work. It had been years since the Beatles wrote/recorded call and response songs.

Will we ever know if the Beatles would have renewed their contract with Brian Epstein as their manager had he lived? The contract was set to expire in late 1967. Would they have lowered Brian's fee from 25% to 10 or 15%? His duties as manager in 1967 were few compared to earlier duties. As written, Brian's main jobs were to negotiate recording contracts, book tour dates and artistic control of their stage act. There was little else for Brian to do after they stopped touring in 1967. Did any of the Beatles address this issue in later years? Would they have kept Brian on as manager?

One thing that always bugged me a bit is why there is so little video footage (if any), photos and information about the UK tour of december of 1965.
The Beatles were at the peak of their fame, but this particular tour, unlike all the others, seems to have been ignored or overlooked by the media, and even today is rarely talked about.
Any particular reason for this?

Welcome to the forum @Filipe (You share a name with my brother-in-law. He is originally from El Salvador). Not sure why there isn't more film from that tour. It was pretty short and the weather was bad, so that might have something to do with it. Here are some stills from the 12/10/65 London show. Check out the first picture. It's incredible the stage conditions the biggest band in the world were subjected to.

Good point. Even when they seem to speak openly about Pete's sacking, the Beatles always act as if there's something left unspoken. Lewisohn has concluded that Pete was fired because he didn't fit in personality-wise and didn't hang out with the others after gigs. That may be the main reason, but certainly his drumming left a lot to be desired.

I've been asked to prepare a sentence or two about each Beatle, for a project for my mum's work (there's 4 of them, so I've been asked to assign them each a Beatle)
Yes, I've left some traits out, however I hope you all agree that there's nothing glaringly wrong with my vast simplifications here? If not, please let me know before I send it off.
John: Self-proclaimed leader of the group. Especially for the first half of their career, it was his band!
Paul: The ladies’ man. The most musically trained of the group, he was a multi-instrumentalist.
George: Introspective, spiritual, appreciated every aspect of life. Had a wide range of interests besides music, including gardening and motorsports.
Ringo: Last to join the band. Humble and happy, he just wanted them all to get along – and got unhappy when they didn’t.

Don't agree with "Self-proclaimed leader of the group" for John at all, @The Hole Got Fixed. When you say someone is a "self-proclaimed" something, it usually indicates they're not up to it and getting ideas above their station. John was their natural or default leader during the early years, not self-proclaimed. When pushed beyond saying they really had no leader the other three would always say if there was a leader it was John. They proclaimed him leader, not just him himself.
