This is the official "poor grammar thread!" If there's grammar in songs that annoys you, post it here! (I'm sure we've all been bothered by Not Guilty and Live And Let Die before). If you want to rewrite a song so it has bad grammar, go for it! (Just please put it under a spoiler so the rest of us won't die from shock and horror).

I've always been bothered by this line in If I Fell :
From the very start
That you would love me more than her
I thought it should be "that you would love me more than SHE DID".

I always interpreted it as "that you would love me more than (you loved) her," but I guess that doesn't make sense unless someone is gay or they're singing from the perspective of a girl.

Here's what kickstarted the idea for me
So how could I dance with another
Ooh, when I saw seen her standing there?
What prompted me to think about it was this notice going around in Oklahoma a couple of weeks ago:

Does the whole gobbledygook-Italian/Spanish/Latin lyrics from Sun King count? Surely when you translate it to English it makes some atrocious sentences.

But that's intentional, @50yearslate, the punchline to a cue-card joke. The joke wouldn't have worked had it been grammatically (or more precisely spelt) correctly.

I know that, Ron. The fact remains that it's still grammatically incorrect. It was my own attempt at a joke, but I guess it didn't work.

"I can't spell," is not grammatically wrong. It is spelt wrong on the card, but is grammatically a legitimate, grammatically correct, phrase.
