Just in case any recent users haven’t seen it before, here it is again! A version of “Flying ” with lots and lots of words added (especially “band” and “play”)

Nice work, Vonbontee! Very creative. I liked hearing the out-of-context phrases (Sgt Pepper taught the band to play) mixed in with different beats and chords. It worked for me in a kind of “this-almost-doesn’t-work-but-yet-it-does” sort of way. It was fun imagining those phrases as daring new melody lines for the existing song. The new melody lines sounded like semi-dissonant jazz phrases snuck into a familar pop tune, which I guess is to be expected from someone sporting a jazz beard. 😉

Nice to see this resurface, Von. The full versions still give me chills. Have you put the entire Alternate History Tour on YouTube? if not, that would be something to consider.
It’s hard for me to listen to all of the other mashup thingies on this site after hearing your full AHT – you’ve ruined all other mashups for me! Thanks.

I was consciously trying for a kind of verbal continuity, ie. finding all lyrics that used the terms “band” or “play” within the 1967 timeframe. Someday when I’m not lazy I’ll make videos for other isolated segments of my “Alternate Hystery Tour” magnum opus.

That might be hard – I’ve got to either find the unllabeled CDR I’ve got it saved on, or borrow the copy I gave to a friend, or get my desktop computer fixed whose hard drive it’s on. I do happen to have two of the four sides on this office computer, but then I’ve gotta figure out how to post videos longer than 15 minute on youtube!

Video isn’t the best I’ve done (lotsa technical problems, including a truncated beginning and ending), but I made one mostly because I wanted some visuals to accompany the version of the song I created for my “Alternate Hystery Tour” project some years back. Anyways, here it is if anyone cares…

That’s pretty cool, vonbontee! I like the scene at 1:46 of the tree and the one with with Beanie Baby right after it, as well as the one with the upside-down highway near the end. I think the mix is quite interesting, too!

Thanks! Hope you spotted the “Revolver ” cover in that Beanie Baby shot – it’s an original from ’66, used to belong to my older cousin.

Wow! I find both video and mix amazing. Especially all the different bird scenes and the ending of the mix where all these other song fragments occur. A great stream of impressions and really fitting to the lyrics for me!

vonbonteeNot once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. Erlewine on Sgt Pepper's

Yes, those cards are adorned with a photo of my niece – the one doing all the fun activities in the video. The original photo – of her holding a winning Yahtzee scorecard – actually appeared in my earlier “Birthday ” video from last year.
And one of those adorable puppies (the one that gets the extreme closeup) is now hers! 😀

As with the “It’s All Too Much ” video I posted a few weeks ago, the visual accompaniment is an afterthought – mostly, I dig how I was able to incorporate out-of-context 1966-67 Beatles lyrics and make them largely rhyme

I enjoyed that! What will you be doing next?
Thanks!
I can’t imagine I’ll be doing a whole lot more of these (at least in the immediate future), even if I could think of enough visual ideas to accompany them all. Which I doubt I can – we’re talking about an entire (imaginary) double album’s worth of tracks!
But here’s a couple I did a few years ago. Video isn’t terribly interesting at all (I only used a crap webcam for one, and no camera at all for the other), but I was really happy with both mixes. (The tracks are “originals”, based mostly on “Flying ” and “Sgt. Pepper (reprise)”)

If you need an idea for visual accompaniment, I think I can help. Just use stock footage from The Beatles music videos, I know I’d much rather watch The Beatles play their instruments as visual accompaniment while listening to their music than the stuff you use. Tell me the song and I can give you a general idea of what footage you can sync up to it, here are a couple of ideas:
Riff:
footage from Let It Be film, try to find clips that focus on Ringo’s drumming
Verse 1:
John Lennon ‘s 1972 live performance of the song
Verse 2:
Paul McCartney playing bass from the Hey Bulldog music video
when the backing vocals come in, go to the part of the Hey Bulldog video where John and Paul are recording vocals together
Chorus:
Revolution promo
Verse 3:
George Harrison playing guitar from both the Let It Be film as well as the Imagine film
Bridge:
footage of Paul playing piano from Let It Be from the Let It Be film with still photographs from the session in the background
Solo:
Let It Be film footage of George playing guitar
after the 1st lick, use the Revolution promo briefly before returning to above footage
at the end of the solo, just use some footage of them walking around
Verse 4:
footage from Let It Be that shows Ringo playing drums
Outro Solo:
Rooftop concert
Verse:
live footage of them playing Nowhere Man , try to use a different venue for each verse
5 Note Riff and Solo:
footage of George playing his Fender Strat, whether it be from I Am The Walrus , All You Need Is Love , or How Do You Sleep
Chorus and Final Verse:
Or you could just use the dreamscapes from The Beatles Rock Band and make custom ones for the ones you don’t like and for songs that don’t have one.
These are a lot more simple to make so here’s an entire album of ideas synced up to other dreamscapes, the dreamscapes to sync up to the song are in the parentheses just so you know:

Revolver :
Taxman (Budokan)
Eleanor Rigby (She’s Leaving Home )
I’m Only Sleeping (Nowhere Man , chorus from Girl for the bridge)
Love You To (Within You Without You , Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) for the intro, riff from In My Life for when the Bb chord kicks in during chorus)
Here, There, And Everywhere (Getting Better , Her Majesty for the intro)
Yellow Submarine (Yellow Submarine )

Good Day Sunshine (Lovely Rita )
And Your Bird Can Sing (Budokan)
