New Game: You must make a case for a Beatles song or album and compare it favorably or unfavorably to another Band or Song. Whoever makes a convincing argument gives the next topic. Ready?
*No Beatles vs. Stones; that’s an old debate, and they are friends*

First: — In 2021 Rolling Stone published an updated ranking of the 500 Greatest Rock and Roll songs of All time. “Strawberry Fields Forever ” was ranked 7th, and The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” was ranked #13. Without taking this into account, do you think Gimme Shelter was better?
I think so. While Strawberry Fields is iconic as both a song and single for the legendary 1967 album Sgt Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band, I will play the Devil’s Advocate here and say the “Gimme Shelter” is better, both for sounding cursed as Merry Clayton screams out “Rape” and “Murder” (in the middle of the night- She came to the studio in curlers and pregnant with a miscarriage.) Keith Richards broke his guitar on the last take- As well as the fact that the song is just so uplifting and is played with so much passion.
I can’t obviously help it beat the incredible tape loops and effects which perfect Strawberry Fields Forever , a guaranteed winner.

Strawberry Fields is better. The explosion of creativity in the 60s was of the most significant cultural moments of all time. The psychedelic movement in San Francisco around Grateful Dead was probably the most profound change to the western musical landscape since the Harlem Renaissance. While the Dead are the exemplars of LSD influenced music, and bands like the Hendrix Experience, Jefferson Airplane and the Doors were all rooted deeply in psychedelics, John Lennon brought it into the biggest band on the planet, and implemented psychedelic sounds and lyrics effortlessly into hit singles. Tomorrow Never Knows was a major milestone for rock music, but Strawberry Fields was an enormously impactful and influential song during a period of creativity that we are still witnessing today.
The psychedelic movement was deeply rooted in anti-war protest and Gimme Shelter is absolutely a product of that, John was so hip to what was happening culturally, he rarely had to play catch up and was instead pioneering new sounds. Gimme Shelter is a great song but doesn’t take much of a risk, and many of the anti war songs that came before it are more authentic to my ears.

@sir walter raleigh I prefer the originals.
Hard Day’s Night
Let it Be
These not only showcase the comic, dramatic and improv of The Beatles, but is directed, acted in, and successful on behalf of it being by The Beatles. Paul McCartney was significantly the genius of the group, no doubt. This is the man who directed Mag.Mystery Tour with a circle. This is a man who composed “Can’t Buy Me Love “, then 5 years later “Let It Be “. The movies post-breakup (Which was an apocalyptic event; The #1 spot on the months Beatles material released was freed for the first time) – the movies were either documentaries or ones with stoic, matured or drained-down Beatles who were putting out work directed not at the market, but their personal lives.

“Angie” by The Rolling Stones or “Let It Be ” by The Beatles?
While Let It Be is a classic, almost symphonic piece of music which can cheer up, soothe, or sadden a listener, “Angie” is sung hurtful and melodramatic much like Let It Be , but is more likely to drive me to tears than Let It Be … Now if it were The Long And Winding Road …
