‘Walrus’. What saves ‘Blue Jay Way ‘ is Ringo who sounds like he’s got fed up and decided to go and do his own thing during the recording session. If anyone should question Ringo’s brilliance play them ‘BJW’ as it’s easy to point to ‘A Day In The Life ‘ only to have someone shrug and say ‘meh. great song anyway’, whereas Ringo turns a dire dirge into something far greater.
‘Walrus’ is pure brilliance, plus it helps highlight idiots as they berate the song complaining the lyrics make no sense failing to realise they are meant to make no sense.

Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown). I like how it’s John admitting to having an affair, yet doing it in a very subtle way (apparently,he sung it in front of Cynthia, and she didn’t realize that he was singing about himself). It’s also my mum’s favourite Beatles song,so yeah,it gets my vote.

No Reply is too epic with the narrative style and imagery and aggressive music, sorry Help ! It really sets up the album for a good start (whatever else you may say about the rest of the album).
Album openers: Magical Mystery Tour or Sgt Pepper ?

Sgt Pepper . I like the audience chatter at the start, and hearing it always excites me in advance for the reprise.
QMan’s favourite backing vocals: the ‘oohs’ in the first chorus of Let It Be (album version) or the backing vocals from ‘And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude , refrain’?
“While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I’m a naysayer and hatchet man in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a punch and I’ll gladly take another - because I choose to live my life in the company of Ghandi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love. I love you, Sheriff Truman.”

Here Today . Little Willow has a note of consolation and the healing passage of time, while Here Today is pure, raw, heartbreak over an oft-rocky relationship cut short too soon. I’m not crying you are damn onion ninjasssssssss
Anyway.

Yesterday . Mainly becauste it was released in a Beatles record. I’m not a big fan of their solo stuff, anyway. Specially Paul’s.
Song intros: Mother Nature’s Son , or Dear Prudence ?
"I Need You by George Harrison"
10.45am

14 December 2009

“Dear Prudence ” has an intro that is integral to the song – the way it emerges from the wake of a jet engine roar and gracefully descends to a village in Rishikesh and the proper key. “Mother Nature’s Son “‘s first eight seconds, by contrast, feel superfluous. Pru takes this one.
“Ask Me Why ” or “Tell Me Why “?

Norwegian Wood without doubt. It’s always one of my favorite songs on Rubber Soul . Great use of sitar, beautiful guitar playing, brilliant storytelling.

I’ll go for I Want To Hold Your Hand , purely for the impact it had in the US. Probably THE song that kick started Beatlemania, and made them an even bigger band. Once they conquered America, they must have known they’d pretty much made it.
Album covers: Sgt Pepper or Abbey Road ? (I think we can all agree, the 2 most iconic)

I love Eleanor, but… She’s Leaving Home tops it by taking the classical aspect from Eleanor and building an even more descriptive, heartbreaking story around it.
