England is a country within the country of the United Kingdom. It lies north of the equator, and straddles the Western and Eastern hemispheres. It recently had an election which was predominantly about whether it should remain in a group for countries in the continent of Europe – and the people of England voted quite decisively to get out of this group, called the European Union. 

There are about 56 million people living in England, with about a fifth of those living in the capital, London.

England has a culture of having a ‘stiff upper lip’, having many pubs throughout each town, and producing many of the world’s most famous bands.

The music of England is commonly associated with being the definition of Western music, at least traditionally. From about the 1500s when medieval music started becoming popular, England has been the home of Western music. This continued through the last 5 centuries, however since the 1990s, when (the American genres of) grunge and hip-hop started becoming popular, England has dropped in prominence on the Western music stage, to America. 

This does however mean that the styles of England could not be combined with Western music, as it is more or less the epitome of Western music.
