Mother Nature’s Son (a much closer guess)
I think John intentionally mixed the two up. That little trickster.

Ahhh Girl’s image and its uh imagery can’t help but remind me of a book that I shamefully still have not read, written over a decade ago by a long time Forum member:
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Yes, @Richard, that’s it…Gaia and Uranus. Do you think John was thinking of the Greek myth of the origins of the universe, etc., when he wrote this song? He wrote it while trying to connect to the spiritual in Rishikesh.
Later in the song he says the eagle picks his eye. Is that a reference to Prometheus having his liver pecked by an eagle?
I’ve not read this theory about the meanings of these lyrics before. Am I way off-base?

I imagine that John probably was thinking of aspects of Greek mythology.
It’s interesting that his earlier lyrics to the song (as shown on the Yer Blues webpage) were:
My mother was of the earth
My father was of the sky
But I am of the underworld and
That’s the reason why
So why did he change those lyrics? Perhaps he wanted to put his own personalisation in the song: John may have thought of his mother Julia as soaring in the sky (a ‘sky maiden’) and his father Alf as being earthly – rather than the other way around.
Here’s the next picture:

The picture suggests a Latin flair.
