Hey Richard! Great question.
The painting is by Tom Newman who was trying to get into Apple to show them his paintings. It just happened to be the day the Beatles played the rooftop. While he was outside drumming up courage to go in, he ran into a photographer friend who was filming the event and who had asked him to help carry his gear onto the rooftop. He placed it there himself in hope of selling it. He later went on to be a producer for Mike Oldfield.
The painting was bought by Neil Aspinall.

Yes, that’s perfect, Nicko.
As well as being an aspiring artist, Tom Newman was in the British psychedelic band called July. He can be seen wearing a maroon jacket in some of the film footage and photos, including retrieving the painting after the performance.
