He considered 72 to be too old to play in a band.

Why didn’t May Pang appear with the Plastic Ono Band?

Page 4, paragraph 3, sentence 2 of her contract with Yoko said May would have to dress like Winston Churchill if she wanted to appear with the band. May decided it wasn’t worth the trouble.

Is Mother Nature’s Son ‘s grass the same as Jojo’s California grass?

Yes, it is: Technically, all of the earth’s grass is California grass, according to botanical expert Sir Paul McCartney , MBE, who expounded further on his own original “Unified Grass Theory” in the 1965 bestselling scientific study, “Green Lives Matter, Man” (with introduction by Dr. Stevie Wonder, Ph.R&B., of the Motown Institute.)

In a word, no. It was another song about an affair John was having at the time. The line was originally written as ‘I’m gonna love her til the cow comes home’. Ever the diplomat, Paul suggested that some women (i.e. Cynthia) might object to being called a ‘cow’. It was – and still is – a derogatory term.

How long did John have to wait before the van came?

Steve Wozniak, also known as Woz.  Woz started up a company called Wheels of Zeus, also known as WoZ.  John had been watching him since he and Steve Jobs founded Apple Computers, and it of course was related to the number nine.  Apple Corp was founded in ’68 and 6+8 = 14; 1+4 = 5. Apple Computers was founded in ’76 and 7+6=13; 1+3=4. 5+4 = 9.  John was certain Woz was sending him a coded message. (Yeah, that one gave me a headache, too.)

That information is unknown, regrettably. As quickly as it had arrived, the metaphorical hurricane vanished, forever, before it could be named, or even seen…and our finests poets have lamented its passing ever since:

In a bid to make amends, and get some the girls interested, he hired Pete Best. Pete, still pissed at being left by the roadside holding the high-hat 10 years prior, turned it into a soft-core psychedelic doo-wop funk record. It didn’t sell many copies at the time yet many years later it has been re-evaluated with many coming to see it as being one of the most influential records of the last 50 years.

What special gift did the buyer of the first copy of ‘Sgt Pepper ‘ receive when the album first went on sale?

They received a limited edition copy of Sgt. Pepper and His Lonely Heart Club Band – Live at Merthyr Tydfil Town Hall. Recorded in 1947, it featured forty-three minutes of Pepper teaching his newly formed ensemble to play a version of Walking in the Park with Eloise.

Actually, he performs them to the Nutopian National Anthem on repeat. Only true Beatles fans got the reference when Sgt. Pepper ‘s was released.

What did George’s parents want him to be when he grew up?

The Beatles were to travel through various seas and adventures in a blue bathtub after a surprise attack by the green heebie jeebies. However, it was scrapped in favour of some cartoon about something.

Who was Mary Jane?

Mary Jane was a girl that John met while on tour with the Beatles in the United States, and the song “What’s The New Mary Jane ” was inspired by an event that happened while they were at a party together. Mary Jane, seeing all the people around her dancing and having fun, became very upset (she “had a pain at the party”). Despite having grown up tall and grown up right with them Indiana boys on them Indiana nights, nobody had ever asked to dance with her before, so she had never danced with anyone in her life. Noticing her sadness, John asked her to partake in her very first dance, where she was “jumping as Mexican bean”. A few years afterwards, she had her final dance with Tom Petty, an encounter that was later immortalized in “Mary Jane’s Last Dance”.

Which person did George originally want to join the Traveling Wilburys, but he had to find someone else instead when it became apparent that they wouldn’t be available?

The case reached a settlement, when the Beatles agreed to record an album of Rutles covers entitled Rutter Soul. The John/Paul/George harmonies worked surprisingly well on their renditions of such Rutles classics as “Fly Like a Bird (Bird Like a Fly)”, “Dustman’s Daughter”, “Rishikesh Rachel” and others, and the album ultimately went to #7 on the pop Top 10, momentarily elevating The Beatles out of obscurity. Overall, a fascinating footnote to the Rutles remarkable career.

Regarding the Beatles’ Shirelles cover: Why was George Martin anxious for the boys to replace every “Baby…” with “Honey…” and then retitle it “Honey, it’s You”?
