The Examiner has an interview with Cindy Coffin, a woman who met all four Beatles, and had several amazing encounters with Paul during the ’70s. She started a blog that’s as much about the friendship she shared with three other fans as it is about meeting the Fabs. I’ve read all the posts she has so far, and she’s an engaging storyteller.

Cindy took a hiatus, but she’s back posting.

Cute story at tumblr of someone bumping into Paul.

UHHH I JUST MET PAUL MCCARTNEY?!

My mom, dad and I were near the met because we were just there and my dad steps on my moms shoe so it makes the three of us kind of stop and out of nowhere Paul’s like “see the trouble you cause!” And then my dads like “Paul can we have a picture!” And he’s like “sorry I don’t do pictures.” He keeps walking and tries to cross the street but then a bus comes out of nowhere and literally almost hits him and so he puts his hands up and is like whoa!! And then we walk a few more blocks and he’s still right there walking behind us.

Above is him strutting his stuff.

I mean the amount of times I’ve cried over him. Like he’s had the hugest influence on my life wtttttffffff

Interestingly, that’s the second person I’ve read whose mentioned that Paul no longer takes photos when he’s encountered in public (unless, I guess, you’re in a smaller town and he’s hanging out with a fellow billionaire).

Local news video of an interview with a fan encounter who got to hang out with Paul’s band in 1974.

(7/26/10) – When Paul McCartney and Wings took over a farmhouse in Lebanon 36 years ago, Dan Ealey used his teenage ingenuity to get past the gate.

Boston Globe article on a Paul “lookalike.” More of a famous fan story than an encounter story, though he did meet Pete Best.

As I mentioned earlier, Meet the Beatles for Real has been charting the progress of the first US tour 50 years ago. I want to highlight this story because it’s a unique one and Sara painstakingly retyped all of it to share:

I am so excited to share this with you all. I know that so many of you will enjoy it and it is a hidden gem that I stumbled upon. During the 1964 tour there was a woman named Ruby Hickman who traveled with the Beatles as the airline associate. She had a very important job and according to her, she is the one that arranged for the Beatles to go to places as as Key West and the Ozarks. She took care of a lot of details with the flight around the country and she fell in love with the Beatles personalities along the way.

Ruby did not want to share her story with anyone because she did not want to exploit her friendship with the Beatles. However, in 1984, as part of the 20th anniversary celebration, Ruby wrote her memories for free for “The Write Thing” fanzine. As far as I can tell, this is the only time that Ruby wrote down her stories. And unfortunately, the print in the fanzine was very small and it made it difficult to read (at least it was for me and my friend).

I am pretty sure that Ruby passed away in 2003, and if she had never taken the time to write her story for “The Write Thing” in 1984, then her story would have gone to the grave. This is a wonderful reminder that if YOU have a Beatles story—even if you personally think it is insignificant, you need to write it down—type it up—video record it—anything! You don’t have to send it to me (although I would gladly post it)…but just have it has a document for future generations.

This is an EXTREMELY long story (it was 16 pages typed on Word), and is basically a small book. But I feel like it is very important to post. I think Ruby would like the current generation of fans to read about her experiences.

Meet the Beatles for Real review of Confessions of a Beatlemaniac!!

As you can tell, I like just about every book about the Beatles that I read.   But this one seriously was one of the funniest and heart warming Beatle books I have read in years.    You will find yourself laughing out loud so many times and you will feel a friendship with Dee and her friends during their adventures to meet the Fab 4.   And even though you know she is going to meet them, you find yourself routing for Dee to meet the guys….to meet them for those of us who will never have that chance.

My friend who won the iheartradio contest finally got pulled up to meet Paul and got signed by him at the Lubbock, TX concert!

I’m so happy for her. I’d just realized last week it’s been a year since the Jimmy Kimmel concert where we met.

Edit: Here’s a video:

Got something Ringo wants? Maybe you can trade it for a meet-n-greet, photograph, and tickets to a show.

Image Enlarger

The item Ringo traded for was a Revell Model of himself from 1964.

Also, meant to x-post this – I wrote about the panel I attended for Confessions of a Beatlemaniac at the Fest for Beatles Fans thread.

And I’ve started reading Beatleness, which will probably have fan encounters. So far I’m deeply in love with this book.

It’s a fun read. Maybe the topic should be expanded to something like Fan Encounters and Other Stories.

ahdn_paul_06 I think this thread should just stick to fan encounters and other stories could be in another thread.

^^ Maybe there could be a thread specifically for first-generation fan stories?
