Greetings!

I’m attempting to put together a massive playlist of songs by other artists that were commonly mistaken for ‘lost’ Beatles songs. I’m looking more for well-known fake songs that used to appear on old bootlegs (i.e. Have You Heard The Word – The Fut, Oh My Love – The Wackers, L.S. Bumblebee – Peter Cook, etc.), as well as songs that were FAMOUSLY mistaken for the Beatles (If She Finds Out – The Twilights, Time to Go – The Kaisers, etc. rather than songs that just sound Beatles-esque.

If you can post a link to a video of each song, that would be great! I’m thinking of putting together a compilation album 😀

Thanks!

Their solo stuff is often mistaken for Beatles music.

How about Lies by the Knickerbockers?  Many people thought this was the Beatles when they heard in on the radio.  This was quickly debunked when they appeared on TV or people saw their pictures.  The song is now a garage rock classic.  I’ll let you decide whether this qualifies for your compilation.

^^ The video above was put forth as a possible “lost” Beatles track.

The song, Life Rewinding, is by a group called The Tables. Unless anyone can prove The Tables are The Beatles in disguise, we can keep this post in the “fake” thread.

Definitely check out Klaatu, specially their album “3:47 EST”, if you haven’t already.  To my knowledge it was the biggest instance of a group being mistaken for The Beatles (allegedly, people thought they’d secretly reformed).  I believe a lot of that was due to the song “Sub Rosa Subway”, which has a little bit of a McCartney flavor to it.

Another good one which I enjoy a lot is a song called “Masie Jones” by a band called Nimbo.  Doesn’t sound like it could be mistaken for The Beatles to me, unlike Klaatu which at least had the McCartney-like vocals, but it does have a sort of power pop feel that Badfinger did, and at least they had ties to The Beatles.

A guy on another forum wrote a good synopsis of how the rumor was started in an issue of “Disc and Music Echo” magazine in 1971.
