I don't want to talk politics, but I'm asking the question. More than half of Americans voted for Trump. When you think about the ideas and values sung by the Beatles, is it possible to be a Donald Trump supporter? By the way, I'm not.
I'm just wondering how anyone can support a politician who thinks the opposite of what the Beatles sang about.
Peace!

Yes. It depends to what extent you embrace his ideology, what extent you associate two different topics, but I support the Donald and enjoy the Beatles. That being said, I look at it like we have him for 4 years and he has a policy in Ukraine, in annexation and in security, so we might as well enjoy the ride. I do not support him doing a third term (but that would be Obama).

I am a Canadian Québécois. My English language skills is average. I am a progressist, spiritual humanist, and environmentalist. I believe in respect, fair capitalism, democracy, kindness, and empathy. I believe it's better to prevent poverty than to send harmless people to prison. I believe that the color of the skin and the sexual orientation is not a problem. I believe it's up to women to decide what they should do with their bodies, not God or men. I am not afraid of the government because in a democracy, we can change it. I believe science and knowledge are for the good of humanity. I am a 56-year-old white heterosexual man who thinks that if God exists, it'is not to judge humans or tell them to wage wars in his name.
When I listen to the Beatles, I see myself in their songs.

I'm not so much a Trump supporter as I am an opponent of those who distort the facts about him in often egregious ways. This video by a young woman articulates well the problem -- and she provides all the receipts for her claims. She was a Leftist all her life, voted for Obama twice and for Hillary, but when she began to really take a closer look at what the mainstream was saying about Trump and the hysterical & irrational way they behaved, she became quite dismayed and began to reassess the whole sociopolitical system.
As for the incongruity between Trump and the Beatles music, I've long ago learned to live with it, since about 98% of all the musicians, artists, and actors I like are all flaming Leftists.

Yeah, @Sea Belt and @Frédéric Dufour,
A lot of Trump's policies are common sense. Why would men participate in women's sports Why would you let your child under 19 change their gender? Why let migrants come in and commit egregious crimes?
The stuff that is bad is definitely not going to happen. With Mark Carney, Trump will NEVER, NEVER make Canada the 51st state. Greenland maybe, but take into account the NATO alliance. A tariff war is a tariff war is a tariff war.
And just look at his first term. We otherwise would have had WW3 if not for making a friendship with Rocket Man in North Korea. He met Putin many times (read into what you will about scandalous pictures and blackmail, Trump and Putin are today's counterpart of Reagan-Gorbachev. Our best bet.

I think its pretty obvious what Paul thinks about Trump (he's written songs against him) Ringo is relatively apolitical but you'd have to be a fool to think John or George would have anything nice to say about him, the Harrison estate denied him the rights to use his music at rallies (they did say they would allow Beware Of Darkness ). Despite Sean Lennon being a Musk bootlicker fool I doubt John would be fond of a corrupt billionaire in the white house. Either way I don't think people should be taking their political cues from The Beatles, but Frederic your observation is spot on, there is a huge misalignment between the message of The Beatles and Trump. Undeniable in my opinion.
To be honest I'm not really a fan of the new political infusion into this site. Right wing Americans love pounding the table to keep politics out of movies and music, yet I constantly have to see signature supporting a white nationalist movement. It doesn't sit right with me at all, but that's just my two cents.
Still, the Beatles are enormously popular. I'm sure Trump himself is a fan of The Beatles. And the messaging the Beatles use pretty universal and easy to cross party lines. I think most right wingers are ignorant, willingly or not of the egregious and illegal human rights violations of the Trump administration, and so for the most part you don't have to work that hard to reconcile these things if you refuse to open your eyes.

Sir Paul told the BBC: "People who deny climate change... I just think it's the most stupid thing ever. So I just wanted to make a song that would talk about that and basically say, occasionally, we've got a mad captain sailing this boat we're all on and he is just going to take us to the iceberg [despite] being warned it's not a cool idea.'"
Asked who the 'mad captain' could be, the star said: "Well, I mean obviously it's Trump but there's plenty of them about. He's not the only one."
Look, Trump, Obama, even Bush who I hate the most out of all these guys seem like they would be cool to hang out with. That doesn't mean they aren't war criminals responsible for the death and suffering of thousands. (Trump is actually less of an international war criminal than Obama or Bush if that makes you happy.) Still a terrible president.

Trump literally said that canada will become the 51rst state and Trump is just deporting criminal immigrants he's deporting ALL IMMIGRANTS even if there not criminals. And the stuff that Trump is doing now, what makes you think Mark Carney and the NATo alliance will stop Trump? Even though he made friendship with rocket man WW3 is still gonna happen. The cause? TRUMP. He literally made a law where people can't identifey as trans or gender fluid on legal stuff like Drivers license, VA profiles Passports etc. And he also tried to gaslight us into believing that January 6th was a day of peace, love and unity when it was a day of violence chaos and battle. But whatever @LucyInTheSkyWithHackneyDiamonds when you become homeless and starving dont blame trump or the left. Blame youself for voting for him. Ignorant people never change.

I think this thread was inherently going to be Political and heated.
@MrHorse I am not a US citizen, first of all, nor am I in the market. But WW3 will NOT happen under Trump, because I trust his record from term 1 that he can be diplomatic with Xi Jingping, Rocket Man and Putin. As for the trading system, time will tell, but perhaps Trump is improving the system with a different unheaval otherwise a new world order. That's foreign policy. Domestic policy is largely common sense. Take my opinion with a grain of salt, but gender is absolute. There IS a drug crisis and fentanyl and immigration are central to that. Executive and emergency power to deal with that is the most important move Trump can make, and I applaud him for that.
I trust Mark Carney to support my economy.

Mr. Horse gets an A+ for hating Trump, but a D- for accuracy.
I transcribed the relevant portions from a short video clip of Trump speaking with reporters recently:
"We give Canada 200 billion dollars a year, we subsidize Canada... [He goes on explaining we don't need lumber and energy from Canada] So we spend 200 billion dollars a year subsidizing Canada, we don't have to do that, and frankly, the way that gets solved is Canada should honestly become our 51st state... Canada would be great as our cherished 51st state. You wouldn't have to worry about borders, you wouldn't have to worry about anything. And by the way, Canada is very highly taxed, and we're very low taxed ... so the people of Canada would pay much less taxes. It makes a lot of sense."
I.e., "should become" and "would be" are not the same as "literally will become".

I'm going to step in here and ask you all to please remain on topic. The topic is: "Can someone be both a Beatles fan and a Donald Trump supporter?" The last few posts have had nothing whatsoever to do with that.
Trump's supporters and opponents will never agree. There are plenty of political forums if that's your jam, but if you can't stick to the original subject I'll have to lock this thread. This is a Beatles forum.

@seabelt Play a drinking game in 2025; every time he says 51st state, take a sip!
But yes, Joe, we should pertain to Beatles- therefore, Why did McCartney play the white house only one time during the Obama administration? He already spoke about being in good with President Trump, but never went back to the white house. I guess Michael Jackson went there once to see Reagan?

I don't mean to quibble, but the thread question is really just a "Yes/No" question, so either we would have a thread filled only with Yeses and Nos (which would be kind of boring) or the ones answering would start explaining why, which explanations don't have such a clear line differentiating On from Off Topic. But of course I will comply and actually breathe a sigh of relief thanking Joe -- that yet another temptation on a social media platform to go down a rabbit hole has been sealed off from such an ultimately fruitless waste of time as bickering about Trump.

At the end of the day, The Beatles themselves don't even align with their own message. Its possible to say one thing and do another. Its also the case that people aren't defined by one thing. What The Beatles stand for and what Trump stands for could not be more different, but the Beatles themselves were hypocrites, why can't their fans be?
