I have a couple Beatles records on my wall which I never play because I don’t have a turntable (but when I get one, you can be sure I’ll play them). They’re all US releases, unfortunately.

Too funny, you sound like me. Ya I was born in ’63. My 3 teenage sisters where Beatles nuts in the 60s, but I started liking them due to my older brother playing their records, so I had to have my own. They were all stereo except for the 1st 3 Canadian LPs were mono only. There was no stereo option with those 3.
And later on, I got into those heavier bands (Sabbath, Zeppelin etc, then Heavy metal in the 80’s). I had some 8-Tracks, but I got into making my own cassettes. Remember those? Then I burned my own CDs, like most people.
The reason I sold my 2009 stereo CDs, was because I had them all in iTunes and wasn’t playing them, and I hated those stupid stereo CD covers. Also sold off the Capitol CD box sets too.
The plan to collect the original UK LPs was the reason I sold off my 2012 LPs, and I knew that black box was a perfect place to store them, instead of an old record crate.
From what I’ve heard/read, Steve Jobs loved the Beatles and was thrilled when the controversy was over regarding the Apple name, and the Beatles finally agreed to release their stuff on iTunes. I’m glad they did, but I already had my Beatles CDS in iTunes before that finally happened anyways.

What got me and my older brother (who was born in 1962 by the way) into them was the TV show. Also, my mother was very young when she had us (13 when she had my older brother), so she was the right age for them too. I’m guessing you remember the TV show and the Yellow Submarine movie when they first came out too.
Thanks for reminding me, I also have Twist And Shout in mono because about a year ago, I meet some old woman who was putting some records up against the curb to throw away (Introducing The Beatles, Beatlemania With The Beatles , Twist And Shout , Long Tall Sally , Something New, Beatles 65′, and two singles (From Me To You /Thank You Girl and Roll Over Beethoven /Please Mister Postman ) among other records that were not by The Beatles (mainly Elvis), all in mono). I asked her if I could have them and she said sure and then told me about how she was born in 1945 and really loved The Beatles when they first came out but now that she was getting old, her husband recently died (didn’t say why), and the fact that her cat pissed on the records that were fortunately still in shrink-wrap with a hole to get the record out, she decided it was time to clean up her house and get rid of some stuff (she also got rid of some vintage toys from her two sons which I gave to my friend who collects toys and a revolver and dagger from her recently deceased husband (nothing to do with The Beatles), which was very strange, but are nice set pieces in my top drawer (don’t worry, I don’t keep the gun loaded))
Hell yeah, I remember both. I made a couple of my own cassettes back in the day by listening to the vinyl in a quiet room with the tape recorder very close to the turntable and would play the whole record through (I did this with Queen’s A Kind Of Magic, Ozzy’s No Rest For The Wicked, and Megadeth’s So Far, So Good, So What and Rust In Peace (among others)) or switch records to make a mixtape (an example would be when I made a proper Queen’s greatest hits album that went something like this):
Side A:
1. One Vision (album version) 5:11
2. Tie Your Mother Down (starts when the main riff starts) 3:45
3. Killer Queen 3:00
4. You’re My Best Friend (not my favorite, but this was a greatest hits album I was making, not a best songs) 2:52
5. Somebody To Love 4:57
6. Fat Bottomed Girls (single version) 3:22
7. Bicycle Race 3:01
8. Don’t Stop Me Now 3:29
Total Time: 29:37
Side B:
1. Keep Yourself Alive (Live Killers version (unaware of studio version at the time)) 4:02
2. Brighton Rock (solo only) 3:00
3. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 2:42
4. Another One Bites The Dust 3:35
5. Hammer To Fall (album version) 4:28
6. Bohemian Rhapsody 5:57
7. We Will Rock You 2:02
8. We Are The Champions 2:59
9. God Save The Queen 1:11
Total Time: 29:56
Absolute Total Time: 59:33
Anyways, let’s get back on topic. ITunes is one of the most stupidest inventions out there. Nobody in the right mind would pay money for a digital file, yet somehow they do.
As for the original UK albums, why not get someway to hang them up and show off your collection. Also, is there any you are missing (I know some can be hard to find).

- Meet The Beatles!
- Help ! soundtrack
- Yesterday … And Today
- The Beatles / 1962-1966
- a bootleg called Silver Beatles Volume 2
- and the cover of Revolver , with no record inside, but it’s on my wall because that’s my favourite album cover ever, and it’s as good as regular art.
That’s got to suck. Anything from Revolver onwards is the best (though the mix on Let It Be sounds like something a Punk band would record in their garage). Don’t feel bad that they’re US releases, those are the best (at least to me).

I absolutely love iTunes. I’ve got sooooo much music in there, and is the reason I do not need CDs or LPs anymore. It all sounds great on my home stereo, in my Car and with my headphones, when I’m out and about. I don’t pay for digital files, but have paid for CDs, so it’s just about the same thing.
In my iTunes, I’ve got Beatles UK Stereo, UK mono, Capitol vol1 & vol2 box sets and all the rest of capitol records. Plus all the Anthologies, bootlegs, live recording, etc…This is why I was happy to sell off all these physical mediums that were just taking up space, and thankfully recoup the too much money I spend collecting all this stuff in the first place.
Thought about hanging up my collection, but the black box mad it so easy. I completed my mission, so there are no singles, EPs or records that I did not get, and some of them were very expensive. My wife has no idea how much I paid for some of this stuff, otherwise she would have killed me!!!!!

If you like ITunes, great. For me, if I’m going to listen to music nowadays, it’s either on YouTube or on a Vinyl record. I personally never got a driver’s license (every place I like is within 2 miles of my house), but my older brother Joe’s car that I occasionally drive in has an attachment to plug a computer or phone in and listen right off YouTube (we actually listened to the entire News Of The World album while going on a casual drive), whereas my first wife’s car only had a cassette player in it, so I’d make my own cassettes when the time came.
As for the last post:
1. How did you fit all the albums, singles, and EP’s into the black box if the box was meant for just the albums and a 252 page book, is the book really so big that you can fit 30 or so more records in there.
2. What one was the most expensive, I’m curious. For us, it’s the butcher cover and Anna (Go To Him)/Ask Me Why .

Sold the big book along with the 2012 LPs, and removed that big piece of foam. The White Album followed by Sgt Pepper , followed the 1962 red Parlophone Love Me Do Single were the very expensive ones. The rest were just expensive……
Here’s a old pic with my UK LPs and my Capitol Albums (with Foam) before I sold off the Capitols and replaced them with EP’s & Singles.

Good idea of selling off the albums individually (probably at least evened out), though I might have kept the book. Also, I understand that a 1962 copy of Love Me Do and the mono version of The Beatles is expensive, but why is Sgt. Pepper mono 1st pressing so expensive.

Today I acquired a copy of George’s Cloud 9 album on vinyl for $12. Here’s the thing though: it’s sealed. Obviously, this was a total steal, but I am torn as to whether to open it and listen to it, or just leave it in the cellophane. What do you guys think?
(Also got his 1979 album on wax, which means I have all his albums on vinyl except Gone Troppo and Brainwashed)

Still sealed? Keeping records in the original cellophane without opening them can sometimes warp or wreck the record (sometimes messes up the sleeve too). Most people slit it where the mouth of the sleeve is leaving the rest sealed.
Nice find for 12 bucks!

WHOA, that’s GEAR, man.
I had a sealed vinyl, but I also wanted to hear it, so I slit the cellophane down the side to pull the record out, leaving the plastic everywhere else. I’ve heard of folk doing that with Wish You Were Here, which as you may know had that dark-coloured wrapping so you couldn’t see the cover art, further emphasizing the whole ‘theme of absence’ bit with the album design.

Well, the sleeve is just a little warped looking at the back. I guess there’s not to much reason to own it if I’m not gonna listen to it. I’m gonna open it and give it a listen. I’ll report if there’s anything weird with the record itself.
