Tonight at 7 CST American Experience is about 1964.

PBS description:

1964 was the year the Beatles came to America, Cassius Clay became Muhammad Ali, and three civil rights workers were murdered in Mississippi. It was the year when Berkeley students rose up in protest, African Americans fought back against injustice in Harlem, and Barry Goldwater’s conservative Revolution took over the Republican Party. In myriad ways, 1964 was the year when Americans faced choices: between the liberalism of Lyndon Johnson or Barry Goldwater’s grassroots conservatism, between support or opposition to the civil rights movement, between an embrace of the emerging counterculture or a defense of traditional values.

Ah, damn. I was going to report on Macca and Ringo playing together, but I've been beaten to it. Exciting news!

McCartney family news:

* France will have its first retrospective of Linda's work at Le Pavillon Populaire in Montpellier from February 21-May 4.

* Article on Stella's pre-fall 2014 unveiling. I don't normally post about these, but I thought the the sisterly connection might be of interest.

Also, Ultimate Classic Rock is taking votes for their Artist of the Year until Feb. 11. You can vote every hour, and Paul's been neck-and-neck with Black Sabbath.

I emailed the link to myself and bookmarked it so I can pop over there often and vote. I need to bookmark the poll on my phone too.

A first look at Ringo's character, Fibonacci Sequins, in the Powerpuff Girls special. Many clever references, including the way he falls.

^^ Haven't seen any mention of that.

Examiner article on the fact that Paul has not (yet) been confirmed as an attendee for the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony.

Sorry, one more thing I keep meaning to post... I got an email from the Grammy Museum about this upcoming talk. It's free, and you don't have to be a member to attend, just that you'll get priority seating if you are.

The Beatles Are Coming! The Birth of Beatlemania in America
Tuesday, January 28; 7:30 PM
The Beatles Are Coming!
Bruce Spizer has written eight books on the Beatles and is considered one of the world's leading experts on the group. His audio/visual presentation covers the convoluted story of how Beatlemania evolved in America over 50 years ago with multiple images, music and interview clips. Along the way, you will learn why Capitol Records turned down the Beatles four times, how the Beatles ended up on a Chicago-based label specializing in gospel and R&B recordings, who the first disc jockey to play a Beatles record in America was, what prompted Ed Sullivan to book the Beatles for three shows at a time the group was virtually unknown in America and how Beatlemania in America was jumpstarted by Walter Cronkite, along with a 15-year-old girl from Maryland and a disc jockey from Washington, DC.  After the presentation, Spizer will be available for a book signing.

BUY YOUR TICKETS
Doors open at 7 PM. Admission is free; reservations required. Members receive priority seating. To reserve your seats, please e-mail programs@grammymuseum.org.

For UK people, there's a docu-film about four girls trying to meet the Beatles in '64 on on Monday at 16.55 (film4): http://www.channel4.com/tv-lis.....2014/01/20

"Docu-film" is stretching it a bit. It's a 1978 Robert Zemeckis comedy, produced by Steven Spielberg (the first film he produced), that centres around four girls attempts to meet The Beatles in New York while they're there for Ed Sullivan.

It's not a bad film though.

^^ Well, okay, maybe. It's not entirely fictional though (given the circumstances of the film), that's what I meant blue-meanie

Paul's the first musician to get 10 million followers on the Japanese social network LINE: http://www.paulmccartney.com/n.....rs-on-line

Imagine that many people, and they're all fans of Paul (and that's just one country). Mind-boggling!
