US albums getting another release – 60 years etc. There has also been talk of a reissue or reworking of the US First Visit footage which had been made into various documentaries over the decades, tho nothing has been confirmed in the slightest.
Here’s a leak of the box set. It seems to be called 1964 US Albums in Mono, despite The Early Beatles being released in March 1965. Word is that The Beatles’ Story is exclusive to the box set, while the others will also get standalone releases.
The other US albums were Help ! (1965), Rubber Soul (1965), Yesterday And Today (1966), Revolver (1966), and Hey Jude (1970). Presumably there’ll be another box set to follow, though knowing Apple they might equally lose interest and forget all about it.
Here is the official trailer for the release:
The set looks great. Nice collection and great occation as its the 60th anniversary of the Fab Four conquering the US. Dont know if I should get it though. Not a Vinyl collector. Maybe Ill start with this release. Releasing 22th of november this year…

I guess we know now that it’s unlikely that there’ll be a Rubber Soul reissue this year. This one is too close to Christmas for there to be another.

Yeah. This allows the SDE to return to the correct anniversary year which Apple love.
There has been talk of a re-release of the ‘Anthology’ series and 2026 would provide Apple an extra year to prepare that since ‘Revolver ‘ got the SDE only recently (60 years since end of touring, ‘RL’ issued along with ‘A2’ and ‘A3’ and wasn’t the ‘Anthology’ video set released in 1996, plus it corrects ‘NAW’ not being on ‘A3’ – it overlooks ‘FAAB’ was 2025 but meh). Apple then do what Paul does with ‘BOTR’ and Yoko/Sean for ‘Imagine ‘ and celebrate the 60th anniversary of ‘Pepper’ because it’s law (same goes for Queen with ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’/’A Night At The Opera’). Also kills any hope of 1963 or 1964 box sets for a few years but many of which have only been issued on the revised ‘Red’ and ‘Blue’ sets.

What I want is the BBC sessions fully separated and enhanced by Peter and remixed in true stereo with any DJ talking removed. I’m sure he could improve that first ever session that’s only available in ropey quality as a boot as a bonus EP.

Hey @Joe do you own the Christmas Records 7″ coloured Vinyl set from 2017? I love that set!
I do. It’s nice. I’ve also got my mum’s original flexi fan club discs from 1963 and 1964. I think she stopped being a member after that.

It’s a fair assumption. I wish they’d looped back to 1963 after Let It Be , and reissued PPM and WTB last year, AHDN and BFS this year. If they’re going to hook the Rubber Soul reissue to the 60th anniversary, where do they go next? Do Help ! in the same year, then keep going backwards and ignore the anniversary thing?
One of the few good things to come of the pandemic was that labels mostly stopped doing anniversary reissues, and just put stuff out when it was ready (JL/POB, ATMP , LIB ). I wish they’d keep doing that.

The Beatles have been voted the ultimate band in a new BBC Radio 2 poll beating Queen.
The result would be far more newsworthy if they weren’t and so it was more the opening paragraph that intrigued me
The Beatles have been named as the ultimate British group by BBC Radio 2 listeners, beating the likes of Queen, The Rolling Stones and Girls Aloud.
Girls Aloud!! Why are they named? Were they ever in the running? Did they receive an opening cascade of votes only to slowly fall away as they aren’t in the final Top 20? I really like Girls Aloud, they have some fabulous songs (here’s one which I doubt many people know and it even almost shares the title with a Beatles song) and I might one day go see them live if they ever tour again, it just seems a very odd choice of group to include in the sentence.

Ha, I’ve actually got Girls Aloud’s greatest hits 2CD collection on my CD shelves! Don’t remember why I decided to rescue it from a garage sale some 15+ years back – I had never heard the first note of their music, just grabbed it up out of curiosity. I kinda liked their big electronic-beats sound in moderate doses. But yeah, it is a bizarre choice.

A very weird one.
‘From Us To You’ is #10 in the Official UK Physical Singles Chart, a chart which is not to be confused with the Official UK Singles Chart which ‘FUTY’ is not in. No idea how many copies that means it has sold.

What is that exactly? The only version I know is the half-minute on the BBC album. Has it somehow been stretched out to a full song?
It appears to be this:

For whatever reason some people are buying bootleg Beatles BBC EP’s which are being portrayed as legal due to the uncertainty over ownership and Apple not acting (whether rightly or wrongly). Sales will be very low but enough to place in that specific chart and in this instance the first track is ‘From Us To You’ which opens the EP.
One version of ‘From Us To You’ (from episode #3) is on the reworked ‘On Air: Live At The BBC ‘ so I presume it’s a different one (of the four).
I’m more surprised anyone is paying £15 for it.

I missed this post. Indeed, it would have been more newsworthy if the obvious was ignored and another band was awarded the winner. I respect Freddie Mercury but to be honest I think Queen are overrated. But man…I love the Beatles. The passion just isn’t going away.

Queen are brilliant, I love a good lot of their work, but let’s be honest, most folk know their Greatest Hits, a handful of other songs, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (the recent film) and Freddie at Band Aid.
I’m not trying to crap all over their work and legacy, they really are fantastic, but in reality there is a chasm between the Beatles are other bands simply due to what the Beatles influenced, achieved and created. It’s not just 217 original tracks (or was it 218? or 216?). Same goes when you bring in Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Dylan, Elvis and everyone else. That’s whats so inane about these polls.

I think that the very best Queen songs are just as good as the very best Beatles songs. Like if you took the 10 best songs by each band and compared them, it would be really close. But unlike the Beatles, Queen has very little back catalog. Once you get past those 10 or so songs, you very rapidly find mediocrity. And I am someone who has listened to every Queen album, so I’m not just assuming that to be the case.

I could very easily compile three, possibly four full discs of fabulous Queen tracks from thru-out their career up to ‘No-One But You (Only the Good Die Young)’, the very last track to include John Deacon after Freddie died (I’m not interested in Queen+), but most of the remaining I could happily not listen to again. But there will be others who could quite honestly say the same about the Beatles.
