Urgh, I’m almost tempted to fly to the States for this. I wonder if he’ll ever play Dublin again.

My hot take is that after the Beatles split they went down the paths of spiritualism, solipsism, alcoholism, and Paul McCartney

Though with the caveat of not officially confirmed by Paul or Glastonbury yet, but as I predicted last week, The Sun are reporting that Paul will headline the Saturday night at this year’s festival.

glastonbury.jpgImage Enlarger

According to an insider…

Paul’s set will be an absolutely must-see. He is really excited for it and is determined to put on a hell of a show packed with all of the hits.

He is feeling really ready to get back out on the road in the US and then will be raring to tackle Glasto when he gets back.

There was some discussion about whether he should go ahead with shows this year because of the situation with Covid, but he decided he really wants to perform.

Glastonbury is such an amazing event to headline and he knows it will be an incredible moment for him.

Last playing there in 2004 (which I was lucky enough to be among the muddy masses for), he was magnificent, winning awards for the best gig of the year from much of the music press, I can imagine this being a triumphant return.

Good to see him honouring his 2020 booking, unlike Taylor Swift.

Colin Hanton’s original 1950s Quarrymen drumkit is coming up for auction in May as part of Julien’s Auctions “Music Icons” sale.

Colin-Hanton-drumkit.jpgImage Enlarger

Hanton bought the John Grey and Sons Ltd. white finish “Broadway” kit at Frank Hessy’s famed Liverpool music store in the autumn of 1956 and was a member of the group through to 1959, seeing the changing line-up as first Paul joined, followed by George. Featured in surviving photographs of the Quarrymen, it’s the kit that was played on the Percy Phillips recordings.

Valued at $400,000-$600,000, it also comes with an animated NFT of the kit.

Why would you want an NFT of the drum set, you have the actual drums?

It’s pretty cool that it falls on World Beatles Day which is the 55th anniversary of the Our World ‘All You Need Is Love ‘ broadcast. Would expect Psul to lead the audience with that.

The BBC dedicate hours of their schedule to Glastonbury, live and delayed sets, so will be shown to the masses.

To mark his 80th birthday, and as their first Song of the Year, Record Store Day will release a limited edition (3000 numbered copies worldwide) 12″ vinyl of Paul’s Women and Wives on 18 June, with the A-side featuring Paul’s version and the B St. Vincent’s version from McCartney III Imagined.

Several newspapers, led by The Sun, are reporting that Sir Paul McCartney CH MBE is being considered for a peerage to mark his 80th birthday. According to a source:

Paul is already in an extraordinarily exclusive set of people at the very top of the honours system.

There is now quiet talk among officials about how to mark his 80th with something truly special. The idea of offering him the chance to sit as a cross-bencher in the Lords has been mooted.

He has given incredible service to British culture, so it could be a very fitting tribute and mark of all that he has done for his country.

Lord McCartney! paul-mccartney-thumb_gif It would certainly be a nice way to mark his 80th if it does happen. I wonder what his full title would be, Lord McCartney of…?

I believe Lord Liverpool is already taken, one of the heredities. Allerton could be a possibility, a nice nod back to his beginnings, or maybe Peasmarsh as that’s now his primary UK residence.

And an explanation of what a crossbencher is for those who don’t know; the majority of peers are appointed by political parties to represent their interests in the House of Lords, crossbenchers are outside of the political appointments and do not sit on either the Government or Opposition benches, but sit on the crossbenches along with other independent members. I doubt whether Paul would take part too much but I can see there might be subjects that interest him enough for him to give his opinion and vote on.

Love the idea and hope it happens. We need to love and honour the legends of our world and be grateful some are still with us. The death of Shane Warne was depressing as an Australian, and it feels like our national soul was reduced when he passed away. Don’t give titles posthumously if possible, give them here and now when we can.

George Harrison ‘s childhood home – 25 Upton Green, Speke is up for auction.

Link

It sold to an American Beatles fan for £171,000. A reasonable amount above the £113,325 average for the area at a time prices there are falling, with a 1.36% decrease since August. Let’s hope they have plans for it beyond getting a tenant.

25 Upton Green is now available for holiday rentals on Airbnb, should anyone want somewhere Beatley to stay in Liverpool.

Beatles and George Harrison superfans!

There is much in Liverpool to help you experience the Beatles, but nothing quite like this.

The Harrison’s lived in this terrace home from 1950-1962. They moved right as the Beatles were starting to gain stardom and success. This is a special place, located in a cul-de-sac residential neighborhood in Speke, just around minutes ride from Liverpool.

The space

Historic Bedrooms:
Walk and stay in George’s bedroom, where he first heard himself and the band on the radio! There’s a comfortable double bed and a large closet.

His sister’s bedroom features a single bed and a small closet, while his parent’s bedroom is larger with another double bed. All of them are waiting for you with premium quality high thread count fresh white linen.

Clean Bathroom:
The bathtub features original taps from when George lived in the house! We’ve only added a shower for your utmost comfort and stocked it with all essential toiletries and soft 100% cotton high-quality white fluffy towels.

Stay Connected:
The super fast WiFi in the house is ideal for streaming your favourite films or if you need to do business from the house.

Complimentary Drinks:
Complimentary hot drinks and biscuits are provided so you can relax with a tea or coffee when you arrive.

Parking:
In case you have a car, there is free parking available around the house.

Unique Experience:
Sit and strum a guitar in the same room that George, Paul, and John sat and rehearsed during the early years.

Listen to old Beatles albums, on our retro standing record player- within a Beatles home!

Re-imagine the famed picture from the front door of a young George heading off to play in an early gig for The Quarrymen.

Lots of pictures of how they’ve done the place at the link. I think the buyer who turned one of John’s childhood homes, 120A Allerton Road, into an Airbnb did a far better job of making that feel period than has been achieved with Upton Green.

@Timothy – I agree! Definitely the only Bond song I’ve ever purchased (multiple times), Something I noticed last night, the female voice that follows Paul’s singing of  the words “Live And Let Die ” doesn’t really sound like Linda. She appears to be the only female credited on the track, so must be her (maybe multi-tracked). a-hard-days-night-paul-7
