I had a dream last night that I was at school working on a project, when Ringo came in and started dancing around the classroom singing “Maybe Baby” from Tomodachi Life. a-hard-days-night-ringo-7

It was like a commercial or a Public Service Announcement thingy.

There were 3 kids sitting on the floor of a living room. The two boys looked to be about 9 and 15. The girl was about 13. They were all dressed in late 1960’s fashions and were looking at The Beatles record covers. The girl jumps up and runs into another room in the house screaming “THE BEATLES”. The deep, mature voice-over is heard saying, “Parents, are you tired of hearing the words ‘The Beatles’? Day and night ‘The Beatles’. Screams and whispers ‘The Beatles’. Over and over again ‘The Beatles’.”

I wonder what I would have dreamed that the deep, mature voice-over voice would have said to do about the situation if the dream had kept going.

I had a dream last night, my class was in a Beatles theme park. Like Disneyland but with the Beatles. There was this one ride, a train with Lovely Rita playing in the background and an actress playing Rita. But every time you went on the ride the train crashed and Rita died. I didn’t “see” much of the other rides because my friends loved the Rita train. Did I mention all of this took place in Finland?

I haven’t had a Beatles dream in months and months, so imagine how pleased I was last night when… a-hard-days-night-john-1a-hard-days-night-paul-8ahdn_george_08ahdn_ringo_09

It was very early on, probably Quarrymen-era except that the lineup consisted of John, Paul, George, Pete, and Stu. It was John’s birthday, and they were planning on playing in a school programme, but then the principal heard the ‘noise’ that they had fashioned, and didn’t want them to play (dirty, disreputable, barbaric Rock N’ Roll!) The boys were very displeased, naturally, and so Paul confronted the principal. a-hard-days-night-paul-5

In the dream, I was both spectator and narrator, so I got to ‘voice’ Paul (in perfect Macca-Scouse) as he mustered up a magnificent piece of oratory directed at the principal, convincing him that Johnny and the Silver Quarrybeatlemen (or whatever they were) should indeed play on that date, if not that particular venue. At the end of it, I was very proud of myself and Paul, the principal was somewhat surprised that a rough rocker could be so eloquent, and John and George were visibly moved and applauding. I remembered the whole speech at the time, and wished to remember it for recounting here, but alas! I forgot it when I woke up. a-hard-days-night-ringo-12

That was the end of that dream, but it went on to include some Pink Floyd people and went very… interesting… places. a-hard-days-night-paul-10 (I haven’t had a PF dream in months and months either, so ’twas very pleasing.)

This past night I had a dream that wasn’t about the Beatles themselves but about Yoko. Of all people. I dreamt that she was my aunt and I had to go shopping with her. I remember her being very weird and making me fairly uncomfortable.

But the night before that I did have a dream staring Paul. I was at a birthday party of a friend I hadn’t seen in years, her father told us there would be a surprise guest and in came none other than Paul McCartney . As I was going crazy over the fact that Paul was in the same room, no house, no town as I… The other girls were wondering who that little old man was. He stood in the middle of the room and asked us trivia questions. One question was “what are the names of my kids” and of course I won the quiz and I got my victory hug from Paul!

I did have another dream where me and a friend went to the McCartney-Film-Festival and saw a film of Paul pointing at books.

I dreamt that I was standing in line for something. Of a sudden, in the queue just ahead of me, was Paul McCartney ! (late nineties vintage, in case you were wondering)

Folk were gathered all round him, getting his autograph and whatnot, but I held back, content simply to gaze on him and convince my brain that this was actually happening. I think I did sort of approach him eventually, bu ti can’t remember what may have happened at that point.

I know what would happen if I approached him.

Anyway…

I dreamed that I was watching John and Paul singing Nowhere Man in Studio 2. They couldn’t get the words right to save their lives. John would get a part right, but Paul would goof it up and then they would reverse roles. However, just the sound of their voices was heavenly.

I swear, in all my life I have never had a dream involving the Beatles. But I finally did last night.

I was at an exclusive gathering at Friar Park. I’m enjoying it, the house, the grounds. George and Pattie are there. In the dream, it  was the early 70s and I was in my 20s though I was, in reality, a wee child then. All three of the other Beatles were there, but I noticed Paul, John, and George made it a point to avoid each other. Ringo flitted around talking to everyone. Also in attendance were Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan. The thing that struck me was the three Beatles avoiding each other. It was pretty heavy, but I was still enjoying the gathering, speaking with Pattie, and other guests, drinking, smoking (not cigs).

As I said, I have never dreamed about the Beatles before in my life. I’m thinking this was brought on by my reading “You Never Give Me Your Money ” by Peter Doggett right before sleep and all that intra-Beatle drama and tension was in my subconscious.

Some people don’t, even hardcore fans. My dad was quite a big Beatles fan when he was my age but never dreamt of them once, whereas I have since I first got into them. I guess it depends on what you naturally tend to dream about, how your brain works, etc.

After I (binge-)read A Hard Day’s Write the year before last, I dreamt of Beatles all night. I tend to dream of things that have been on my mind a lot lately. ahdn_george_06

Long ago I had a revealing dream about The Beatles… They were climbing up the stairs of a building, running up, and I was following them. They were dressed as they did in the early years. I was myself, a twenty-something year old boy at that time. I was trying to follow them but they were running too fast, and I was left behind. Well, I was a Beatle fan and used to play their songs on the guitar, but at that point I hadn’t even dreamed of composing my own songs. Suddenly I realized I was never going to catch them –and I awoke. I think at that time I felt I would never be as good a songwriter as they had been, so I didn’t even try. Years later, maybe when I was twenty-six, I started to come up with my own tunes and melodies (which of course have never been as good as those by Lennon-McCartney).

A girl was born with her heart outside of her chest. It was connected with veins and arteries, but it was just loose outside of her body. Someone made a little chamber for it and attached the chamber to her body so that she could walk about, go to school, etc. When she was about 5 years old (I recall seeing her in a school uniform in a classroom — probably in India) Paul McCartney heard about her story and decided to pay for the operation to have her heart put into her chest. heart Aw, Paul, you sweetie.

I was playing audio of George Harrison interviews, and then the man himself was standing in front of me. He had a bootleg-ish looking record of the Beatles’ first session at Abbey Road studios, and he took the sleeve off and tossed the record into the rubbish. For whatever reason, this behaviour didn’t shock me in the slightest; instead, I calmly took the opportunity to repossess this rare record for myself. a-hard-days-night-john-1 (He obviously no longer wanted it, right?) It was very thin and quite floppy, so it took some doing to get it onto my turntable, but I got it figured out and spun it up. I was then also able to see video of the session, and then I was actually in the session (every fan’s dream!).

Paul kept trying to pick me up, and I staunchly refused his advances every time. (The Paulverts/Paulettes will consider this an enormous opportunity wasted, but I was determined to remain celibate.) ‘No, Paul,’ I said very firmly, ‘there are plenty of other girls for you to throw yourself at. I’m very sorry, but I’m not the one for you. You will find a wonderful woman and have lovely kids and a lovely marriage*, now please stop kissing my neck.’ a-hard-days-night-paul-10

* Don’t you just love being a time-traveller from the future? I knew all about his love life before he’d even found it.  a-hard-days-night-john-6

I was spinning my George Harrison LP, but it wasn’t like the real thing — it had a different track list. The only real song on it was ‘Blow Away’, which I was listening to on repeat, and then I went to a song on the second side which sounded vaguely classical and very interesting.

George (1979 vintage, to match the album) was griping about Paul’s irritating-ness, particularly during the Anthology (my subconscious was completely mixing up chronologies here), and then he started playing the song I’d just been listening to on the piano (very well too), whilst I sat there and admired his beautiful hands and lovely long fingers. a-hard-days-night-paul-7

Then Dhani toddled up with a bottle (he was about one), and George stopped playing and picked up his son and it was too cute for words.

AwwwwwwImage Enlarger

… And then I proceeded to dream that everyone was trying to kill me. paul-mccartneyI wonder, what does that mean? a-hard-days-night-paul-4

I had a dream not long ago that I was on a large boat with current Paul, 1969-ish Ringo and 1968 George and John. Everyone was helping to get the boat out of the dock, and it was my job to pull up a rope. Paul beat me to it, and I said: “Thanks, Paulie!” a-hard-days-night-paul-8

He giggled and replied “You’re very welcome.” a-hard-days-night-george-9

I had a dream last night that the archive edition box set of Wild Life came out, but there was no bonus track CD.  There was only the album, and a DVD.  I was really dissapointed because I wanted bonus Wild Life songs.
