David Gilmour has a cover of “Here, There And Everywhere that’s included with October issue of Mojo. It’s quite lovely.

WOW.

Did this beatlemaniacs_02_gif for the entire first minute.

That’s the best Beatles cover I’ve ever heard, by one of my favourite musicians ever. And one of my favourite Beatles songs ever. I’m on Cloud 9.

A new album, out today (at least in the UK) has folk-style versions of Beatles songs. It’s called A Hard Day’s Night Treatment, although the songs aren’t from any one era or album.

There are sound clips of most of the songs on the label’s website. Some sound rather nice; others less so. And I don’t know what the Down By The Docks song is supposed to relate to.

1 Down By The Docks
Featuring [Soundscaping] – Simon Emmerson
2 A Hard Day’s Night
Featuring – Fresh Handmade Collective, Rosie Doonan
3 Norwegian Wood
Featuring – Sheema Mukherjee, The Imagined Village
4 Ticket To Ride
Featuring – Martha Tilston, The Imagined Village
5 Fixing A Hole
Featuring – Eliza Carthy, The Imagined Village
6 I’m Only Sleeping
Featuring – Fresh Handmade Collective
7 Mother Nature’s Son
Featuring – Kristian Leontiou, The Imagined Village
8 Strawberry Fields
Featuring – One Eskimo
9 Blackbird
Featuring – Marry Waterson
10 Sun King
Featuring – Angie Pollock, Fresh Handmade Collective
11 Here Comes The Sun
Featuring – Martha Tilston
12 Flying
Featuring – The Space Cadets (2)
13 I Want To Hold Your Hand

14 I’ll Follow The Sun

Looks interesting, thanks Joe.

Personally, I’d be less interested in the folky covers of Beatles songs that were already folky from the start (Norwegian Wood , Mother Nature’s Son , I Will , etc.) — and more intrigued by how musicians could “folkify” Beatles songs that were rather unfolkish (e.g., Ticket To Ride , Fixing A Hole , I Want To Hold Your Hand ).

Imagine a folky version of Helter Skelter …!

I gave a listen to the brief excerpts they had of each, and the only one I markedly like is the very cool cover of “Flying “.

I just wish they’d say on the website who performed & conceived that particular cover…

Ronnie Spector has a new album out on Friday, English Heart, which contains a version of I’ll Follow The Sun (and lots of other songs from that era):

Sheila E. can do no wrong (as far as I know). She’s not only the only female timbalero, she’s one of the best — even better than her father, Coke Escovedo (but not as good as the greatest of them all, Chepito).

I wish the news link had a video of the performance. When I looked on YouTube, there are many videos ABOUT him, but none that actually show the video that supposedly “went viral”.

I couldn’t find an active link in the article (and I just looked again), @Ahhh Girl, and nor could PR. Maybe the link is gone.

I still can’t see an active video on that page for his rendition of “Imagine ” — but (ironically) the “bonus video” of Adam performing “Hallelujah” works fine.
