Offline My husband reckons the show-runners purposely styled the character after late 60s/early 70s Paul. The actor isn’t really that like Paul IMO, though his mustache does grow in the same shape

Oh my gosh I can’t un-see it 
I reckon it was a deliberate attempt to give him a sort of 70s-esque hairstyle, to fit in with the 70s hairstyles that the rebels in the original Star Wars trilogy had, since the series is meant to be an immediate prequel to Rogue One and the original trilogy.
