I would add Revolution #10

seriously though,

it must remain as is

it shows exactly where John was at at that time

in his mind

rough and gruff is (sometimes) better than

pollyanna

( or whatever her name might be)

I even like the Dehradun bit that George sang on Anthology. It might’ve been written while in India considering Dehradun is in India.

In an ideal world where the (in my mind, by 1968, nonsense) restriction that George could only have 1 song per side was lifted, Not Guilty . Considering that was a non-starter from what I’ve read (much of it from smarter people than I on this very forum!), I’m with the seeming majority that Revolution 9 should stay.

I’d keep Revolution 9 on the album for better or worse.

But I’d consider putting it elsewhere on the album.  I’ll bet many casual fans often rejected the record when it came on and rarely bothered to skip over to Good Night .

You are all my friends.

My opinion is that personally the Cry Baby Cry /Can You Take Me Back/Revolution 9 /Good Night closing lineup is great. I never listen to Good Night except when listening to the whole album, but I think it’s an effective closer.

I’m with you. I think it’s great. I don’t understand the hate. Before I came to this board I never met anyone who didn’t like Revolution 9 . I mean doesn’t everybody to love to go around saying “Number 9? Number 9?”

@adam,

I’ve moved your post here as it fits the question you posed. You’ll find other’s opinion throughout the thread.

I appreciate avant-garde experimentation: the whole point is to go out on a limb, stretch outside the box, take risks against convention; etc.  The Beatles didn’t invent that type of experimentation, but it’s cool that they took time out to indulge in it to their heart’s content with, among other things, Revolution 9 .

I wouldn’t put anything in place of Revolution 9 . I actually love it, I think it’s a masterpiece of how John pictured a Revolution . So, in shorter terms: nothing.

Revolution 9 is an incredible piece of work,no way would i want it replaced. On the remaster it sounds particularly amazing.

However if had not existed “junk” and “not guilty” would be not bad choices.

I wouldn’t replace it.

The way it and Good Night end the album is perfect. It’s chaos than Good Night sounds very creepy and eerie coming after it. A fitting end to a crazy album.

I feel Revolution 9 could’ve been better though. I don’t think it’s narrative it’s clear enough and it doesn’t build up to very much. There are some really good bits though like the flame sound effect and Yoko’s line. I think it could’ve been a lot scarier if maybe it was worked on a bit more. But I guess the point wasn’t to have a refined piece.

If you want a total mind melt play the stereo mix thru good head/ear phones; the panning of ‘”#9″ alone can mess with your head, everything flying in and out just adds to the chaos.

I’d replace Revolution 9 with Revolution 9 at twice the volume.

I don’t like the song, but I would leave it as it is.  It’s Johns decision, not mine! two-virgins

YES.

Or ‘On The Run’ by Pink Floyd. But that’s off-topic.

In the place of Revolution 9 , I would put Revolution 9 on headphones. Because … The Watusi. The Twist. a-hard-days-night-john-4

… El Dorado. a-hard-days-night-george-2

I do! Nobody gets the reference either, which I love.

I’m for keeping it too. Revolution #9 has been an inspiration in the oddest of places: for instance Neil Finn says it’s his favourite song on the album, but if you look at it’s Wikipedia page, it’s actually been covered quite a few times!

Take this brother, may it serve you well.
